Aliens could end up in 3 general categories. Mutual, Defensive, and Offensive.

Offensive aliens would be out searching the universe in the best interest of their species and do anything to preserve their species at all costs.

Offensive/mutual sub cat. - Treat us as companions and help each other or use us as slaves somewhat.

Mutual aliens would Research us, maybe trade resources for knowledge with us. Give us knowledge. Help us.

Mutual defensive. - They would try to give us hints and Little information hoping we would learn from it and change.

Defensive aliens would only research us but try to keep their presence hidden. Seeing us as a violent war prone species they would be vary wary of us and our religious views.

I believe the universe is so vast their could be all those types of aliens is our solar system. Although our planet has probably never made contact, our governments were hiding it they would be doing a better job at that than anything else they do.

Those are the "offensive" ones, they are always probing into things they don't understand.

First, any aliens that can come this far will not be afraid of our guns. We might as well not make any lion documentaries either! And being smitten would not constitute a cause for alarm too.

In our solar system, the moon and mars could have had microsopic life in the past, maybe even gainamede might have had it. Our best bet of extraterrestrial multicellular life in the solar system is the seas of Europa - but they are unlikely to be intelligent, much less civilised and organised. But if you are look for something akin to a strange coral, maybe even a fish; Europa is the best bet and by 2035, we shall know.

What about… indifferent ETs on the whole except for the exceptional… noteworthiness. And without a single grain of moral or technical or bureaucratic or academic bias… what could merit a prolonged and sustained interest?

Their are billions of solar system in a galaxy and billions of galaxies. I'm only categorizing intelligent life, their is surely primitive life somewhere in the universe.

Never being able to have all the answers would sustain interest.

Without having some kind of reference of the aliens home world, it might be hard to figure them out. What their interest in us, might be dependent on their current state of advancement and how many other species they've encountered and what happened during those encounters. Even what they look like might have a lot to do with how they think. Example the movie Predator. Not even a mother could love that face, and everybody remembers what Arnold said when he first looked at that face.

Forth capability: Absence. There might not be any aliens to begin with.

It's very easy to fall for the pitfall of speculation of "what if an alien exists" and negate the fact that perhaps "There isn't any aliens at all".

Yea, on earth. The size of the universe doesn't suggest anything other than maybe they're lost. The age of the universe will.

Theory: Aliens invet the necessary speed, fuel, and craft to seek "alien" life. Embark on space adventure... get lost. Anyone want to take a stab at mapping the universe here from planet human?

They are mapping the universe on a macro scale. But about possible life on other worlds in our galaxy. Current thinking is the galaxy has a goldilocks area where life as we know it might be found. The core where stars are closer together and there is a greater amount of radiation producing activity which would tend to be very bad for the development of higher life forms. Also, stars in the outer reaches of the galaxy will tend to be poor in the heavier elements, because of a low star density will have a lot less supernovas which produce the heavier elements.

I haven't yet seen a real estimate on how wide the goldilocks strip is supposed to be, but for the sake of argument, let's say it's 10,000 light years. So now we can draw a 10,000 light year strip around the galactic center. Now what I would like to know is, do we know how many stars will be in that goldilocks area and if so what is it?

In any event we still have a lot of stars to look through in our searching.

What about patronising type? They would "preserve and conserve" us like we do to wild life.

that would be the "defensive" ones.

New proposition for types of aliens: future-us aliens. They evolved far down the line, have become balls of floating plasma with consciousness and are now zeeping past universes and space-time. They are not humans and they cannot interfear with us because changing our timeline would alter theirs.

What happens if these Aliens are from our future like 3040 AD? or there about....

thats my proposition. The "ourselves aliens from the future" type of aliens. Us from 3040 A.D...I doubt we would have evolved past humanity, so its us.

Smart money is on low level lifeforms in abundance scattered throughout, nothing to compete with our intellect. IMO

thats what Copernicus said with our Sun being the center of universe. Most assuringly we turned out to be somewhere part of billion of stars revolving around a galaxy center that hovered as tons of other galaxies in space...
Honestly we are not alone. The question is, how important are we to the universe, for the aliens to care.

Agreed. The title of this thread (Aliens: 3 possibilities) is all about a speculation depending on "if" aliens exist. Plus, calling them as "aliens" is simply not enough, or too simple: These extra terrestrial intelligent life forms should be civilized enough to develop some technologically advanced systems which are capable of travelling among stars and/or galaxies . That is to say, they should be a way ahead of our emotionally motivated ape curiosity, they should practically have no benefit from our civilization. Not only they don't need our technology or culture to gain some additional information, but they can also easily find better sources of energy than our planet.

Just as our imagination tends to construct possible aliens' appearance in humanoid form, we also try to guess their intentions according to our own anthropocentric perspective. If they are capable of travelling all the way from their planet of origin (or from their colony), they should have better qualifications.

Think of the British and French invasion of Norh America: rival alien factions competing for the same resources, giving little notice to the natives unless they get in the way.
