*sigh* sometimes I think we save people we really shouldn't, like people with burns to 90% of there body, what is the purpose of intervening? Extending there pain? Lengthing there suffering? Just let them die

This happened not far from where Im located. Actually most of my facebook friends have been circulating this and I have seen alot of comments actually defending the person that ate the other mans face blaming it on a combination of drugs that led to this....

As for the other mans face here is the pic:
Mod Note: Content warning — the following image shows a completely disfigured and bloody face. This image should be deeply disturbing to most viewers, and you are strongly advised not to view it.

80% of his face was aten off, I suspect after the first bite the homeless man was in shock

Looking at that picture, I really think the best thing that could be done for the victim is to give him a giant dose of morphine.

LSD and Morphine are more complex to make than this "street drug".

Real LSD is not available outside the lab. There are now more potent varieties of LSD, but they are not available outside the lab.

I'm certain the vile(s) of the attackers blood is going to the CIA/KGB/Chinese Secret Service battlefield berserker-soldier test facility for further examination.

    Calgone with the the wind.

It would take more than just a chemical reaction to cause a person to react like that. If you wanted to get into conspiracies over it, perhaps suggest how radio-frequency might have been used to manipulate the guys brain, however that would have to continue in the allotted sub-forum.

That attacker had to be crazy before he mega dosed. An did his damage.
If the victim survives he will be wishing he didn't .

This is strangely reminiscent of The Walking Dead. At one point in the show, Rick asks Shane how the Zombie Apocolypse started. Shane says,
"At first, it was just a few weird stories on the news....."

I haven't read that there's any evidence of drug use apart from the behavior of the attacker.

No quite Zombie, but ultimately another hideous depraved display of mindless violence.

There is woman now healing from a chimpanzee attack that removed her face. After some reconstruction surgery, she is fairing well. As well as can be expected from such an ordeal.

This man was homeless. I imagine he has pretty limited options for reconstructive surgery.

In the pictures, I noticed one eye was still visibly in the socket. I wonder if it's functional or if it was damaged beyond repair...

Can ANYONE see the problem with this statement?

Didn't someone say earlier that the guy ate his eyes? Doubt it still works and I don't know how much could be done for an eye with that much missing. MAD might know if it's possible to fashion an artificial corner, lens, iris etc

Why because hes homeless should he have to live without a face? Firstly hes a human being, this is not a nose job for some rich snob who doesn't like how they look, this is ESSENTIAL medical treatment, both for basic functioning, infection control, mental health and 100 other reasons. Secondly hes been the victim of a crime so where is your victim's of crime compensation scheme? Even if you are too selfish to provide universal coverage THIS should be covered by a government compensation scheme.

This is a joke, when my mum had breast cancer the state didn't just pay for her breast removal, they paid for her breast reconstruction because its felt that this is not "vanity" surgery, its essential to mental health and to normal functioning. How then can the same not be argued for reconstructive surgery for someone WHOS FACE HAS BEEN EATTEN OFF

Tell me, Asguard... has anyone argued that he should not?

I responded to Keiths comment, that since he is homeless, his options are limited.
This means, that he will most likely receive only essential or life dependent treatment.

No one said that is how it SHOULD be. The reality is medical care costs money. Homeless people are usually short on that. My mother is in need of a surgery right not to remove her gall bladder because it is full of stones. The hospital will not even schedule her surgery until she has paid the copay. If she had no insurance she would have to pay $30k. She doesn't have that kind of money and I imagine a face transplant would cost way more than $30k. Unless some very charitable doctors, hospitals, and financial donors step up for this guy, he will likely be stuck wearing a mask for the rest of his life. One thing is certain though, he will surely be eligible for permanent medical disability. So maybe, in a vile disgusting way, this could be a turnaround that helps him get on his feet. I really hope there are donors and such for his sake. But the sad reality is that it is not human nature to care so much about a person one will never know.

How you managed to twist any remarks suggesting that the homeless guy DESERVES his likely fate is beyond me.

COMPLEATLY rebuilding his face IS essential treatment
