Using gpedit to speed up internet speed

Anybody here has used gpedit.msc to increase upload speed? My speed is sufficient, but was researching the topic and it supposedly works pretty well, so I am looking for feed back.

Here is how to do it. If you don't have gpedit (XP users) you can download it.

QoS (Quality of Service) is likely utilised by certain applications that involve streaming media and more than likely used to make sure that when an update for the OS is done, is done without errors.

Disabling will grant you that reserved bandwidth, however there are still bottlenecks that can occur through your router or modem, through the gateway at your ISP or anywhere between you and the destination that you are trying to connect to.

Clarification about the use of QoS in end computers that are running Windows XP

As in Windows 2000, programs can take advantage of QoS through the QoS APIs in Windows XP. One hundred percent of the network bandwidth is available to be shared by all programs unless a program specifically requests priority bandwidth. This "reserved" bandwidth is still available to other programs unless the requesting program is sending data. By default, programs can reserve up to an aggregate bandwidth of 20 percent of the underlying link speed on each interface on an end computer. If the program that reserved the bandwidth is not sending sufficient data to use it, the unused part of the reserved bandwidth is available for other data flows on the same host.

Correction of some incorrect claims about Windows XP QoS support

There have been claims in various published technical articles and newsgroup postings that Windows XP always reserves 20 percent of the available bandwidth for QoS. These claims are incorrect. The information in the "Clarification about QoS in end computers that are Running Windows XP" section correctly describes the behavior of Windows XP systems.

My understanding is that you can use this trick in 7 too, not just in XP. But you need a higher version than just the Home....

Gustav is right. You can theoretically reduce congestion control algorithms and get "more bandwidth". How many of those packets are dropped in the network stack? How many are dups? You might get 20% more throughput (bandwidth) but if your packet loss is greater than 20%... did you accomplish much?

I love theory as much as the next guy, but the main reason for this thread was personal experience. I have read on other forums that people did get better speed, thus I was curious if anyone had similar experiences here.
