How much weak acid is it!

Acetic acid (vinegar) is an acid, zinc (Zn) is a metal.I should get a good reaction. I tried to observe the reaction but could not find any gas. Is it too weak acid to produce 1 bubble of hydrogen? Is there any condition to hold the reaction.

How clean was your zinc ? How thick was your oxide or hydroxide coat ?
The initial reaction is with zinc hydroxide or oxide on the surface

Scrape the zinc into filings, use say 2M HCl.
