Shatner on Colbert Feb 29, 2012

What a dick. What a no humor, bloated, washed up whale of an actor, walking away from his best role like he was ashamed of it. Like he's done anything since that even comes close. I guess his arrogance was part of his charm as the character of Kirk, but wow, what a train wreck of an interview.

LOL, please tell me this doesn't surprise you - after all, Shatner has become so embittered by the continued success of his co-stars (Takei, Nemoy, et al) that he has all but shunned that part of himself... all he has LEFT is "Priceline Negotiator"... swing and a miss that one!

I think that was part of the joke. He was playing "arrogant" to match Colbert's schtick. He wrote, directed, produced and starred in the documentary "The Captains" in 2011 where he interviewed all the show's principal captains: Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Scott Bakula and Chris Pine (and many other Star Trek actors from various series) and they all shared their Star Trek stories (well, not so much Avery Brooks, who came off as slightly out there).

If he were running away from or shamed of the legacy, there was no reason for him to write and produce that movie. (Not that it's a great movie, btw. I was a little bored.) He does discuss the embarrassment he once felt over the role (which I think is understandable), but he's clearly beyond it.

He's just such a great actor, that you couldn't tell he was joking!

I could be mistaken in my interpretation, but it didn't go well, that's for sure. It's like he was trying to play along with Colbert but he didn't quite get it or something.

From a British point of view Colbert is a total prat, and Shatner played along during the interview with his cool charm. Us British don't really get all of that cheering for Colbert, it's very annoying to see a timid guy taking revenge in his later years on the school cool guys. The screaming, and cheering must be coming from the other sofa junkies who took to TV audience seats after finding life too difficult to handle in the outside world. They get Colbert, because they are Colbert. For some reason however, William Shatner is a very British American.

That is because he is Canadian. I missed the interview as I don't stay up that late any more, but Shatner is still putting along nicely for his age. Colbert is funny because he pretends to be a very right wing Republican egomaniac, that is indeed his schtick...and many of his guests don't quite fit with him. I did see the Branson interview when they both ended up spraying each other with water.
