Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), a frequent critic of President Obama, also has a few words for the Tea Party:

“I’m not afraid of anybody,” Waters said at the summit in Inglewood, Calif. “This is a tough game. You can’t be intimidated. You can’t be frightened. And as far as I’m concerned, the tea party can go straight to hell.”

Naturally, the right wing is bawling about it:

“We’ve had Democrats calling American citizens ‘terrorists’ and ‘hostage takers,’ and now an elected Democratic representative says that we can ‘go straight to hell,’” the group Tea Party Patriots said. “The president and all leaders of the Democratic Party, who have called for civility in the past, are neglecting to censure their own. Is civility only required from their opponents? Perhaps it’s time for a new-NEW era of civility. ... The president’s silence on these latest violations of civility has been deafening, but not surprising.”

    (Henderson)

Of course, one wonders where these conservatives were when the suggestion that opposing an unnecessary, falsely supported war was treasonous sympathy for terrorists.

Then again, that was a white Republican president, so of course they're not going to complain. Just like they didn't when that white Republican president's black Secretary of Education denounced schoolteachers as terrorists.

I suppose I could sympathize with the TPP complaint were two other facts also true: (1) that there was no late history in American politics of such rhetoric; and (2) that the metaphors applied with equal veracity to the various sides of the political arguments.

Not a fan of Maxine, but I sympathize with her remarks.

I hate the pussy-talk that people demand, and the Tea Party has it coming.

If they can't take the heat. . . . [insert snappy remark here]

    Means nothing at all.

Waters can say anything she wants to about the TP or the Republicans as the 35th district in LA which went for Obama by over 80% in the last election and is populated by their version of yellow dog democrats.

    This and That

Means something to the Tea Party, since they're asking the president to stick his nose into the affairs of congressional Democrats.

To "solve" problems by killing one another? Sounds like a conservative paradise.

I always adore suggestions that the solution is simply to give over to a bunch of mindless thugs.

And the Tea Party says, "Waaaah!"

And yet the Tea Party is bawling about it.

    Must matter to someone.

Nope, they are just using her ill chosen remarks to gain political ground.

They are trying to paint her as the spokesperson for other Dems and as having nothing but invective to spew.

Because for the people that count, those who are undecided, that kind of remark gains nothing for the Dems.

    (chortle!)

Yes, Arthur. You speak for the entire swing vote.

And that is not an uncommon theme in Republican/Tea Party world.

    You really need to ask?

"Because for the people that count, those who are undecided, that kind of remark gains nothing for the Dems."

    (#11)

    What confuses you about that?

    Chortle this....

Because it in no way indicates that I'm speaking for the swing voters.

(unless you think just spewing invective is an effective way of influencing these swing voters!)

So clearly all I'm doing is giving my opinion on why it matters to the Tea Party.

Which was the issue we were discussing.

Explain the difficulty you're having understanding your own words, please

Well, let's take a look at that:

"Because for the people that count, those who are undecided, that kind of remark gains nothing for the Dems."

Undecided voters are the swing bloc, Arthur.

Yes Tiassa, and all I'm saying is why I think the issue is being pressed by the TeaPartiers, to garner some support from that group, but that doesn't mean I'm speaking for the swing voters though.

    That's just silly.

Say what you mean, or learn how to say it

That is a change of your stated position as such, which is fine with me.

I'm sure it does seem that way to someone unable to understand himself.

Look, Arthur, we're not psychic. We can only go by what you write, and it's well and fine if you want to revise your position. But don't sit there and try to lie to us.

Either say what you mean, or learn how to say it.

    No it is not.
    I understand myself just fine.
So do the people I deal with every day.
    You, not so much.

    Don't be silly.
My original posts are still all there.

    Tiassa,
I don't expect you to be psychic, and there are of course a number of ways you could read what I wrote, but why would you presume that I intended to be speaking for all the swing voters of this country?

    Clearly NO ONE does that.

Quit being silly and try to keep the level of discourse at a reasonable level.
