    The deferred disaster

I was listening to a radio presenter the other day who said, 'conservative [republican] supports are general paranoid and anxious people, and socialist are generally more laid-back. And yes I agree with this.

Conservative have traditionally predicted major problems that have never materialed. Maybe the best example of this paranoia was the famous speech by Enoch Powell 'Rivers of blood'. In which he predicted great trouble ahead for an ethically diverse United Kingdom.

And to a degree he was right, with the 7/7 bombing. However, this was a one off event and is far from the river of blood predicted.

However, during the 40 years or so since this speech ever major nation in the west has manipulated its economy to give false growth. There has been no real hardship in this period. But now this deferred disaster is about to hit us harder than we could ever imagine. Will the anxieties of the conservative prove to be correct? Or will the liberal positivity find new and safe ground in a much changed landscape?

This thread isn't about race that was the best example I could give. This is about the attitudes of the left and right over the last 40-50 years in light of the changes that will take place.

I don't think this is true. Conservatives and liberals just worry about different things. The left is fond of predicting environmental disaster such as Paul Ehrlich's infamous prediction of mass starvation by 1980 and the current obsession of the Left with global warming.

So have liberals as mad has already pointed out. They are just as bad at saying things to get people all worked up over nothing much at times.

However, this was a one off event and is far from the river of blood predicted.
Possibly because it just hasn't happened yet.
