I created this as an e-mail for a friend of a friend so I thought I might as well copy and paste here for anyone who may be interested.

I have mentioned this method before here but I recently encountered another sinus infection, the second in 4 years in which I used the method listed below to eliminate it. I want to emphasize that it MAY in fact have been a coincidence. However, in both cases it worked immediately and the pain and pressure were severe enough that in the past only antibiotics would resolve it. However, taking antibiotics in the past started a pattern of infections for me that went from 2 infections a year to 3 and then 4 a year before I sought out another way. In the past 4 years, things have been so amazingly different in my sinus health for the positive that I love to share this to all other sufferers.

    "For your friend,

    http://www.amazon.com/Saltaire-Sinus-Relief-Dispensr-14/dp/B001I2QK0S/ref=pd_sim_hpc_3

Here is the pump bottle I use.

I pour out the solution it comes with as it's pretty harsh stuff. I use basic cold water and some salt. About 1 heaping teaspoon per bottle. You can add more or less, you want just enough so it doesn't hurt but not so much that it dries out the sinuses. You can also add a teaspoon of baking soda but I usually skip it.

Whenever I have mowed the lawn or been in any environment where there is a lot of pollen or dust or whatever that may impact my sinuses, as soon as I can I take a shower and use the pump. Before using this method, after mowing the lawn I would have issues for at least 5 days, running nose and eyes, congestion etc and have to take decongestants all the time.

Now, symptoms don't last even 1-2 days if at all and now over the last 3-4 years I only take about 5-10 decongestants a year and I have both grass and mold allergies.

If I encounter a sinus infection, I have had 2 over that time period, I add 2-3 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide to a full bottle. Once I pump the water in I tip my head upside down and you can feel the burn way up in the sinuses and even tilting your head to get it in the deeper areas. The hydrogen peroxide kills on contact and also helps clear passageways. Now, this has worked very well on both occasions and it still may have been just a coincendence, but I have found this information on the web from others who swear by this method and it has worked in both events. In both cases, the very next day I felt very little pain and pressure and then I gave it another round and by the second day it was completely gone. This used to take antibiotics to make it go away. Which is what was causing the pattern of having them all the time before I went to this method.

The main instruction on the pump is to use it in the shower, make sure your head is forward, pump the water in one side, gently, very gently clear out the sinus and then switch sides and repeat as needed. Don't just flush a bunch of water, all agree that using the pump to create and ebb and flow effect is better. But this is also way more aggressive in clearing out any irritants etc then an Neti Pot.

If you try to clear out too hard it can hurt the ears and if you don't lean forward enough the water can run back down the throat, both should be avoided.

Also, very important, if you have an infection and use the hydrogen peroxide don't let it get in the eyes, it can do damage there. Also not a good idea to swallow it but at such a small dose won't be a problem. Just keep out of eyes.

    Tell her good luck"

So although regarding the infections it may be a coincidence, the fact that it has worked equally as well in the second instance tells me that it may be a solid solution to the issue without using antibiotics.

I do daily "irrigations" (that is what they call it when you wash your nose out) with salt water warmed a bit in the microwave, sucked up in a baby ear syringe (the cheap blue rubber squeeze ones) over the bathroom sink. I have done this since getting sinus surgery 15 years ago. I teaspoon of salt to 1 quart of water. It is milder if it sits for 2 days before use, but I use it straight away anyways.

I cannot recommend irrigating with H2O2, sorry. The salt water often come out my tear ducts into my eyes, the peroxide would do the same, so that's a no - go here.

I only use the H2O2 when I have an infection, otherwise as you say only saltwater. So I have used it 2 times, 2 days in a row, a total of 4 flushes in the past 4 years.

But I haven't noticed any irritation in my eyes when I have used the H2O2, again we are talking 2-3 teaspoons in a 14oz bottle. I also haven't noticed any water in normal flushes coming out of my tear ducts.

When I have had the infection, I feel a strong burn from the H2O2 where the infection is, the next day when I flushed the sting was less and again the infection was gone after that or at least all pain and pressure was. I don't notice any burn or much at all where the infection is not, I assume where the pain/pressure is the infection is. So it seems to work for me and others, but yes keep out of eyes directly of course.

Have you had any infections ? If so what did you do to get rid of them ?

I also wonder if maybe the pump system in the link I showed, which is the exact device I use is more moderate as far as it's flush power. I approach advising others with caution so I appreciate your response.

I use a dental irrigator to irrigate with twice daily, and use the following mix in about 16 oz of water:

    I tbsp baking soda
    1tsp louisiana-style hot sauce
roughly 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
    5 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
    6 drops citrucide(grapefruit seed extract)

    You...will...drain.

I've had 2 surgeries so far, and I think they didn't take out enough either time.

Before I started using the sinus flush with saltwater. I was so done dealing with one sinus infection after another. I had made an appointment with a specialist/surgeon to decide what I should do. The appt was set out about 2 weeks, in the meantime I did a lot of research and came across the sinus flush as an alternative. None of the 3 doctors over the 4 previous years told me about this option, it was Nasorel and antibiotics.

I had cleared up the issue on my own using the technique in the OP, out of pure desperation mind you.

But I went to the specialist anyway to see what they had to say. I explained the history and what I did before the visit to him and after looking me over he asked " so is that flush technique working for you ? "

I said apparently, yes it did.

And he said, "good, stick with it" "I don't recommend surgeries anymore because we are finding that people still have similar problems"

I was like, are you kidding me. It was like I stumbled upon a secret I wasn't supposed to know about.

Anyway, that is what he said about the surgery option so you might not have to go to such extremes other than saltwater if you do it daily. I myself only flush during certain times of year and when I have been around dust or irritants. Good luck.

My sinus infection is 9 years old, it was completely encapsulated. I was running fevers and having 2x a week migraines. I was eating Ibuprofen like M&M's, and subsisting on caffeine pills.
    Chronic fatigue.

The first surgery was a polypectomy, the biggest polyp was about the size of a cranberry.
It helped temporarily-two days after I was hiking around a mountainside, when before I could barely climb a hill.
    The second was an ethmoidectomy.

I think I may need more stuff out, as I still have to use a ton of topical steroids to get the pus to drain.

It hasn't hurt that I went on a diet and lost 125 pounds in a year.

    Fat promotes inflammation.

Oh, I also irrigate with a bottle at work, and on my off days, irrigate 3x-day with the dental irrigator, plus a dropper drench with a rotating assortment of interestingly-procured antibiotics, xylitol, lactoferrin, salt, and an antifungal agent du jour.

And, I use herbal anti-inflammatories: ginger, turmeric, and drink a lot of white tea. BTW, both green and white tea seem to help promote antibiotic effectiveness in lab tests...

This kitchen-sink approach seems to be helping...slowly. I'm certainly not exhausted ATM.
But I get green plaques out all the time, so the infection's still quite active.

Unfortunately, the ENT's said hydrogen peroxide irrigation seemed to be causing damage-too bad, because that actually knocked back the infection.

I had serious sinusitus 15 years ago, got 4 operations at one time as my osta (sinus drain holes) had been so swollen for so long they sealed over and the infection was going into the bone under my brain pan. Deviated septum, polyps, turbanates and a drill job on the osta. Hurt a lot, cost $10k back then.

I have had many infections since, none serious, all addressed with salt water irrigations. The saline environment is bad for the germs and the water flushes the colonies out so they have to start over in a saline environment. The sinus surgery killed off my IBS as well. 2 birds with one stone.

I stuff toilet paper up my nose. It simulates a plugged nose and when you remove it blam no plugged nose . It also keeps the saliva from dropping down your throat. people thought Me a crazy Man and would say " What the matter wich you . Get that out of your nose . It made Me self conscience for a while with all that peer pressure. Then another carpenter said one time "I hate those gooks in Rancho Cordova " They stick toilet paper up there nose when they have a cold . I said you fucker don't talk like that . I do it too and those people know how good it works . They ain't stupid like you. You should try it next time you get a cold . You might learn something . He huffed his way out of my house after that . I have converted many of people sense I got that vote of confidence from me fellow Sacramentians

Whee, I am draining yellow pus down my throat!

    Yummy!

@ Stoni-the ops hurt a lot less, because now they use blood gel (a chitin material that causes coagulation) for packing, and it either dissolves or works its way out.

It is gross though. Like blood jello.

Also should mention-I had my tonsils and adenoids out as a child.

Soar throat from sinusitis or allergies. How do I get rid of it? I have the soarest throat ever from all the drainage from either sinusitis or allergies (it just started raining everyday, which can trigger them for me). My tonsils are really swollen but just red, they don't have white spots. I have a headache, in the front of my head, and i'm tired a hell. No fever or anything.

One thing I have concluded is that sniffling is bad because it tends to force the nasty stuff up or back into the sinuses.

Avoid letting the nose dry out completely. If mine gets dried out I just place a drop of water in the end the nose but not in the more delicate more upper and inward nasal passages.

Dab eyes dry, which discourages them from tearing. That discourages the eyes draining into the nose which triggers more eye watering, and then nose running in a feedback loop.

Push a bit of tissue or paper towel into the ends of a running nose to clean it out, which discourages the feedback loop of runny nose and watery eyes.

Those are some helps for me. They are better for someone who isn't dealing with the more severe symptoms, I guess.

One thing that I do most is vibrate that junk out of the top of my throat. I guess the tongue is pushed back while air is forced out of the lungs, causing a somewhat jet engine sound and venturi effect that draws the junk into the mouth so that it can be spit out. It definitely is an irritant. Can't let that junk into the lungs as that apparently is a major cause of pneumonia.
