Guess what, folks? As an experiment, I prayed to God (in fact I asked that my wish only be granted if God were not the Christian God but in fact a kind, non-existant God) that my post, "Proxy for MT", in the Computer Science forum, would be viewed by many thousands, far and wide. Well, lo and behold! Take a look at the view count of that li'l beaut, it's something like 65000 or 70000 or something. You know, that exceeds any topic ever posted at Sciforums before, if I recall correctly the most viewed one besides *mine* had 40000-odd views.

    Soo... pray, it works!

Isn't that kind of a pardox that cancels the whole thing out? (And you know, it may not have been the praying that caused the viewings

    Bad news...

I spent a long weekend with coffee and seat cushions accessing that post over and over and over. I think I viewed it around 65,000 times. Sorry... I felt compelled to do this by an unseen force.

    Now I know why...

And we wonder why Dave is having problems?

That's a lot of bandwidth for only a few days. Make sure you donate to Sciforums after that one, GB-Gil.

Personally, I'm curious as to how you did it. But being that it probably involves your admitting to criminal activities, I don't expect to find out.

    thanx,
    Tiassa

As a matter of fact, it didn't involve illegal activities, only a simple bit of HTML code.

    PHP:

...so in essence, it really did get that many "views", and nobody got into the database to change it.

You don't need to move mountains to convince them...

...just convince them and they will bring the shovels.

(Not an exact quote, but pretty close to the book The Jesus Incident by Frank Herbert)

As you know Mark, I am an atheist. However, I have a very interesting relationship with God. If you've seen Fiddler on the Roof you'd recognize me as an odd mixture of some of hte characters.

One day when my one friend was about to leave for camp this summer and my other was home for only 3 days in between months at camp we decided to smoke a ton of pot and buy ourselves a new bong. We had only a half a dime between us but it was of some amazing stuff from Switzerland. Early in the day everything was going well and Ross made a remark that all our days that start off good generally last as great hte whole day through. We all agreed. About 5 minutes later Ross dropped teh pot and I stepped on the bag. All the pot was ruined. We went upstairs to get Ross' lighter and realized there was no fluid in it. We were going to leave and as Jeff picked up our home-made bong all the water fell out from a hole in the bottom onto the carpet. I looked at Ross and said "this is a sign of things to come". I pointed at the sky, looked up and said quietly and to myself "you bastard. why today?" And I know I'm just angry at what happened. But every so often I seem to do something like that.

Oh, and incidentally, it was a sign of things to come.

    Fair enough, GIL

    Legal, indeed. I shan't contest.

However, it would seem a waste of bandwidth. Given Sciforums' recent bandwidth issues, I was wondering how you did it because I was wondering how much signal was coming through the pipe.

    I hold myself well answered.

    thanx,
    Tiassa
