    Explorer doesnt load at startup

I am running XP sp3, when I start the laptop the wallpaper appears but the desktop icons do not. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

It could be a viruses fault or it could just be that your Harddrive needs to have a maintenance check.

When you get to the Wallpaper, press CTRL+ALT+DEL together to bring up the task manager. If you can bring it up, see what processes are running, you can even attempt to manually load "explorer"

in Task manager got to File > New Task (Run...) in the open box type: explorer
