In geological time two years is a flick of the fingers. The last time this volcano erupted, it rumbled on and off for two years. I'm not saying it will, but what do you think would be the economic, and infrastructural consequences if it did? What would happen to the price of oil for example?
Direct loses to airlines are about 200 million per day. The only winners in this, as usual, will be the lawyers trying to sort out the claims for hotel rooms, plane companies contractual obligations to use other means to get you to your destination when they cannot, etc. I think I have a US resident daughter stuck in Paris as I have not been able to reach her and she was there for a wedding. The plume from the volcano is not reaching as high as it as, and there is hope that it will turn to lava flow within a few days. Can't see flights being back to normal until the end of the week, even with the most positive scenario. The air force is reporting engine damage on some of its planes.
Planes Grounded by Volcano For 2 Years? Good question. If some scientists have it figured out, that and worse could happen.
We may see a resurgence in the cruise business. People may once again take ships to cross the Atlantic. I am not all together sure that would not be a bad thing.
How about one of these? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Tea Clipper The tea party should like them. Or should that be dislike them?
I've just looked on the Post Office page to find how long my mail to the States is likely to be delayed. Nothing about it, except a note saying they are not responsible for delays and their normal compensation will not be paid. That's useless to me. What I need to know is how many days it is likely to take.
This volcano is causing the Euro to crumble before our eyes. Maybe the Europeans will seek the U.S. to bail them out later. This wouldn't be the first time.
it can rumble all it wants as long as it doesn't keep shooting ash into the air, if it did keep sending ash into the air over a 2 year period, more than the price of oil would be in danger. much more.
Guys, don't be worried about this volcano, this is just a heads up for Yellowstone, that fucker is well overdue for its eruption, and god help the people living 300 miles from it, and the rest of us as well. http://www.earthmountainview.com/yellowstone/yellowstone.htm
