I notice a lot of freedom haters on these forums. Why do so many of you favor giving up personal freedoms (or forcing fellow citizens to do so) to the government? Don't you guys realize that's a bad idea?

You can't have freedom without the 'dom'.

I believe that's a severely poor choice of words. I cannot imagine anyone considering themselves as being a "freedom hater."

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I'm perfectly willing to give up a certain degree of freedom in order to make my country a little safer to live in and in an effort to track down the "bad guys." And that includes the full spectrum - from terrorists to deadbeat dads to traffic offenders as well as loose convicted sex offenders.

Absolute freedom doesnt work unless you can eliminate evil from society.

Some of the hippie communes tried it back in the sixties. Eventually they got bogged down with criminals and people refusing to contribute.

The freedom I don't like is the one where missiles start raining down on your country. Soon, if you survive, you will be having something called democracy.

Is that sort of like having your family shot to death by American GIs?

Or when the leaders take away all of your rights and freedoms and what you have is a dictator with a totalitarian regime established telling you what you can and can't do.

Can you please give an example as to who is saying this by linking us to them and what they actually said about giving up their personal freedoms. Thanks.

    Where's Roman gone?
He's been quiet ( hasn't made an insult) for at least ten minutes.

I'm feeling quite inspired, when with Roman..do like Roman does.

I'm just going off to put on my toga and sandals... when I come back, I'm expecting a tirade.

p.s If Roman gets banned tonight I promise I'll fiddle while Roman burns.

So if everyone had guns and there were no rules I would be free. Interesting.

How about soporific apathy and delusional outlook on reality?

    Does that count?

What about crushing babies skulls underfoot as a form of entertainment?

    May I have that freedom?

You are not free to murder people.
You are not free to say "fuck" on network TV.
You are not free to expose yourself in public.
You are not free to posess heroin.
You are not free to hire the services of a prostitute.

I suppose your government and the rest of your country must hate freedom too, then?

I don't have any of my kids killing people in fake wars. Not in Vietnam nor in Iraq or Afghanistan.

What about you? You supplying cannon fodder for powers that be? You got that "freedom"

Buffy: "ooh a baby; are you with us or against us?"

    baby: gurgle gurgle

Buffy: "sound like terror talk" rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat

    *steps on baby's skull*

Or is that outsourced to desperate illegal immigrants as well?
