View Full Version : should videogames have their own forum?

i'm guessing a lot of you out there love videogames, and sciforums.com. i do to but i hate that videogames are included in the "computer science and culture" section. any thread relating to them gets lost between all the other ones, and many people who would like to discuss this subject don't even know where to look for it. so that's why i'm making a poll to see how many of you are in a favor of giving videogames its own section.

i think it would be pretty pointless, since no actual intelligence would be being created, itd just be a specilized cesspool.
leave them where it is, cause methinks there dont seem to be that many threads bout it anyways.

DerSteppenwolf

you are probably right. however i think the cause for not being many threads bout it is it doesn't seem to be a section that clearly contains videogaming. i know there are more profound issues to discuss, i usually priorize them too(heck, i'm a political science and international relations student), but distractions are also a part of life. not everything has to be always about "serious matters".

Video game threads can go in Art and Culture. That, or Art and Culture can be balkanized into Movies, Music, Books, Video Games, and so on. Besides which, there are dozens, probably hundreds, maybe thousands of video game forums on the internet, so one more doesn't seem necessary.

perhaps i missexplained myself. i didn't mean a whole forum just for videogaming. just an independent section within a forum. is there a way change the title?

"there are dozens, probably hundreds, maybe thousands of video game forums on the internet, so one more doesn't seem necessary." This argument could be applied to almost any topic on which has forum on this webpage, so i'm very confident when i say its not a valid one.

you are right to be very confident, for i agree with you.

however, there arent as many forums about the topisc in here as there are for games, especially under one 'roof'.

DerSteppenwolf

wel,l we can certainly agree on that.

Steppenwolf, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=video+game+forums.

Compare with http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=philosophy+forums.

There's like four times as many video game forums as philosophy forums.

I do not think that a video games forum would be very productive.
It would really be something like the cesspool. Or can you have really
interesting discussions about games?

I'm all for a videogaming section. I would love to know what games people here are playing and I can actually brag about my prowess and clan in Joint Operations without fear of a stoning

Aren't there enough Video Game forums on the net... an endless amount. Please, no... No. No. No.

I'd go for a videogame section.

remember this is a forum for everyone. videogamers should not be segregated. down with antivideogamism!! haha

StarOfEight

I agree. Video gamers should not be segregated. Hence, I oppose segregating video game threads into a single forum.

Touche!

Well, let's approach this differently. A lot of people have had their needs accomodated for, it would only b fair if us gamers had a little area to ourselves.

Someone here (I don't know who *whistles* ) could moderate it.

Yes, good idea, let's have a videogaming subforum. I love my PS2!

What's wrong with using Culture, Free Thoughts, or SciFi, as appropriate?

Thor

Because they don't fully accomodate video games. It is the only mainstream interactive medium you know

i HATE anyone who doesnt love the almight GAMECUBE

im all for a games section, it would be pretty cool, and yes, you can have an intellectual discussion about computer games, depending on what games you play

It doesn't fully accomodate sports, movies, music, television, or books, either.

no, what i mean is that people are free to post about them but if they dont then whose fault is that?
in th history of the forums, there are 6 examples?
"just do it", and post, it doesnt need to become an argument.

I can't believe YES is winning. That's sad really.

Why must video games and pornography take over the net. I thought scifourms was about expanding the mind, not pacifying it.

No ... that's the first six in the forum.

Don't bother...I have always been and always will be the master of video games, no matter what kind. I've beaten my friends at video games easily when:

1. I didn't have a PS2
2. This was the first time I played the game
3. He had it for over a year

I beat him after my second try. It's just some hand eye coordination naturality I have :D

Video games pacifying the mind? Then you don't know how hard a video game can get. All video games need some mental ability to play, its not like how it used to be, where you can press a button and beat it. If its pacifying anything its your physical body (addicts). Watching T.V (what exactly are you thinking about other than what's being presented to you) and Staring at a wall pacifies your mind. for gods sake there's strategy games out there which I doubt you would ever be able to beat, and yes, you actually have to Think to beat them.

P.S - Try a command and conquer game, like...Warcraft 3, Age of Empires or some other game similar to that. Play the online game and watch how easily other's forces will overcome you, unless your a military genuise, which I doubt.

There isn't enough demand or content about videogames. Computer science section is fine for whatever little threads there about videogames.

DerSteppenwolf

i hear the argument that this forum is for a more elevated type of discussion, and that there are thousands of videogame forums all over the net. this is exactly why i propose videogames have theri own section or subsection on sciforums.com; because the level of discussion here is ususally better than somewhere else(there are of course, exceptions), i'd like to also be able to discuss videogames with this sort of people. an yes i can do it in the computer science and culture section, but no one ever seems to know videogaming is included there.
