    Hello

I have some 'lovely' image modifier softwares, like Adobe Photoshop 7..... I am wondering if anyone can give a tip on making a wallpaper ONLY with the software alone; no scanner, no cut and paste..... I tried it once, when it came to terrain drawing I messed up.....

    Thanks

Do you mean drawing the wallpaper in the program yourself?

The programs digitalblasphemy uses are practically professional quality, costing over $1000 bucks per program, and they are the kind of things that you need to learn...it'll be hard just to tinker with them.

It'll also be hard to create a terrain drawing with just Photoshop, if your just an amatuer user. Corel's Bryce program is extremely simple to use to create mountains and such terrain-like things. But then you'd have to 'copy and paste' the terrain, you made in Bryce, into Photoshop to detail it up.

I made a wallpaper from scratch, but used the 'copy and paste' for one element. Here it is. That center piece was originally a picture and I used Photoshop to distort it and change its colors.

The rest of the wallpaper was made from just using Photoshop's tools. The brush tool is how I made everything else. I tinkered with the opacity of the brush and the flow...I used Photoshop 7. The 'color bursts' on the corners were made with the brush tool and the smudge tool. For the final addition, I added a layer of just a bluish color and turned the opacity of the layer down, so it tinted the picture. I then cut out pieces of that 'blue layer' so the things in the corner of the wallpaper would still be red and orange, while the rest of the wallpaper had a bluish tint. I thought it came out fairly well, and I don't know much about Photoshop.

Oh...that green\blue 'pot' on the bottom center of the wallpaper had a crosshatching filter on it.

It really helps if you paste something into the wallpaper to get you inspired and then you can later get rid of it, and work from just your imagination.

I'm curious why you don't feel like cutting and pasting into the wallpaper.

And what type of wallpaper you want to create depends on the software you use. The guy at digitalblasphemy makes 3D wallpapers with lots of particle and lighting effects. I personally like to make wallpapers that look like someone actually painted the thing with real paint...I go for 2D.

Thanks for the info. Maybe then I'll think of going as far as copying-and-pasting from other appl, since I don't have a scanner for now...
Bryce.... I have one, but it's a bit confusing even to get used to using it: No control panel, not even a title bar..... But if I can switch to Maya, maybe that will be good.....

Oh, and about why I don't prefer cut-and-paste for the first step, I just think that the softwares alone have a lot of features.... But then again, I forgot that I'm meddling with a PC, not a canvas....

    BTW, off-topic a bit:
Can someone explain about the very odd image file extension .tiff and .iff?

Hmmm... can it be interpreted this way:
It's an image file with the file information containing 'CorelDraw like' format combined with 'Photoshop like' format.
but then again, why is it that my sytem cannot open tiff files?

Uh, yeah. I often use MSPaint to modify some images, like removing author's name from a wallpaper (heh heh heh... evil intention....).. but when it comes to gradients and customs, I have to use advanced softwares.
