I needed one a while back, and I eventually found a free one. I'll try to remember what it was.

I know one long hackneyed way to do it would be to download mplayer, and windows media encoder.

You could use mplayer to play the realmedia stream/file, then configure windows media encoder to record from either "what you hear" or the "wav" device. You would need to disable the windows "system sounds" temporarily.

there is a download (freeware) that allows you to play RM and RAM files in mediaplayer classic. you do not need realplayer installed.

this will allow you to play saved files and some (but not all) streaming files.

i'll post the link when i find it.

    edit:
    realalt 1.51
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Real-Alternative--beta-Download-14790.html

the version i have is 1.48 and it works fine.
the above version (1.51) is apparently beta.

    edit 2:
