people becoming famous/respected after they're dead. Is there some kind of mentality to it or what? Even I seem to learn about folk who were around when I was only after they died. I don't remmember any special advertising for them either. And in history Emily Carr etc... Of coarse there are those like Einstein who enjoy themselves more or less in life, but why do so many not get the full credit when it counts? They only live up to the full potential in death.

Seems like a sure way to get recognised doesn't it? -> do the work, blow your brains out, and wait for the good times to roll in...

yeah, I hate john ritter. I was glad to hear that he died because I thought they would take that fucking show off the air (which they didn't). what a no-talent joke of a person, who got all kinds of respect, that he didn't deserve, after he died.

It could be because while they are alive, they may be the best person and most influential person, but to everyone around them, they become common. I don't know. I imagine Abraham Lincoln at the time was admired, but it wasn't until after he was dead that his deeds made good history. I could be wrong.

It's mostly out of respect. To remember their achievements while they were alive.
