Where are you getting this message from? From your own anti-malware program or were you just surfing the net and you got a browser pop-up?

Steps, in no particular order, that can provide a safer working environment

    1) Increase security on your OS by installing all available updates, suggested by your OS maker.
    2) Perform scans on a regular basis with a recognized brand of anti-virus and update it's definitions regularly.
    3) Implement a recognized brand software-based firewall and configure for optimum security and flexibility.
    4) Perform scans on a regular basis with a recognized brand of anti-spyware and update it's definitions regularly.
    5) Say NO to any prompt you don't know about, investigate in Google first, then decide what you'll do about it.

    Important warning regarding #5:

If the dialog/warning has an [x], close the dialog with the [x] preferably, there are some warnings/pop-ups that really are ad-banners and if you click NO it would be the same as a click on yes or anywhere on the banner.

Let me know if you have trouble with any of the steps.

  8. Download this, install, update and run. Done.

And if you want to test out if your new anti-malware program works download this and surf a bit. Then run the anti-malware program.

here is what I sue to keep shit at bey:
    1. firefox
    2. AVG
    3. adaware
    4. cw shredder
    5. hijack this (hard to use program, only for use in extreme situations unless you are good with computers)
    6. webroot spy sweeper (I keep it running all the time, it combined with firefox should prevent 99% of infections)
    7. moveonboot (for deleting files upon startup)

I keep everything at bey with those. you should not need all of them, but a bad infection could cause problems when trying to download and install a new program. I would not want to get cough without these programs when I need them.

Weird! The exact same thing happened to me, sapience.

In the bottom right program bar it says:

    System Intrustion Detected!

Dangerous infection was decteted on your PC. The system will now donwload and install most effiecient antimalware program to prevent data loss and your private information theft.
Click here to protect your computer from the biggest malware threats.

Then it goes off to install some bullshit spyware scanner that I need to *buy* to delete the "infection". I'm also getting lots of pop-ups now, ranging from dating sites to online casinos... I most get pop-up's for spyware removal programs. They must all be bullshit, I haven't clicked any. I have two spyware scanners on red-alert and they are sweeping but haven't' solved the problem.

I have spybot and ad-aware and neither has worked. I also use Firefox. Please help me!

Makes me wonder how people fall for such obvious scams...

Try updating your scanners, then put the name of the malware which you downloaded in google search and look if someone has already solved the problem.

And don't forget to update your definitions before using those spyware cleaning programs otherwise your program will be looking for only old spyware, not any newer ones. A couple people didn't even know about that here, heh.

That's because you don't have an infection.

    I'm surpised theres no:

    Malicious Systemware Detected!

Please uninstall windows and consult your retailer for better operating system software.

Anyhow, Please check the Stickies for the FAQ and the Virus thread
They should contain links to all those programs that can be of use.

How is this hard to use? In my opinion, it's just a clickfest.

Infect them once secretly and then infect them once not-so-secretly when you give them the "cure" for the first ailment.
Is this some kind New World Order formula?

I once had something that would reset my homepage for ages. It would go dormant, and then resurface every once in a while, unexpectedly.
I forget what exactly it was called. This was a variant on an earlier hijack. The first one was removable, but for at least a month or two I could not get a hold of anything that would remove the second one.
They imbed some nonsense in the registry, and like you can just go in and find out where it is and delete it without having a degree in computer science.

I have not had one of those for a long time. Thank goodness!

By the way, anyone ever have trouble with Norton products. One time the firewall stopped allowing traffic over the modem. Couldn't figure it out. Called the company and they said the modem itself was connected, but found out that the firewall was blocking things. Couldn't get in to the program to examine it either, it was completely non-responsive.
Finally uninstalled it, and re-installed it. SAME THING! Finally found out it had left some entries in the damn registry (that thing is screwy!) that it DID NOT remove on uninstalling it, and if I remember correctly, there was very little I could do about it. I THINK there were some instructions for MANUALLY deleting that, but I don't quite remember if it was for that specific problem or not.
And why the hell would a company sell a rather pricey software product that could fail inexplicably in the middle of the day with no warning, and no way to CORRECTLY uninstall, therefore rendering any re-installing WORTHLESS???
And WHY THE HELL was it so difficult for me to find any "help" on their website? If they were aware of the problem (apparently they were) why not ADVERTISE it in a big way, and make a little program that corrects the problem, instead of hiding a solution in their technical database. That solution requiring editing the registry manually. If I remember, they also had a warning about the potential hazards of altering the registry!
OH! AND IT GET'S EVEN BETTER!
Apparently, if you REALLY want help for their product that YOU bought, you can call their premium technical support line which costs something like $30.
Two of those calls and you can just buy another program, from a DIFFERENT COMPANY!
And I heard that the technical support is in India.

    Isn't Symantec cool?
