Why does man wish for imortality? Do other animals do the same?

I don't want immortality. I would hate to stay in this form for eternity.
If immortality means my energy becomes one with nature when my shell expires then fair enough, i want that.

Oh and i don't think other animals want to live forever. Apparently animals only think about death when they are facing it.

I was under the impression the majority of people don’t want to live forever.
Would you want to live forever, given the direction the World is heading in?

Where did you hear that? How can we possibly know that?

well, if people don't want to live forever, why do so many seem afraid to die.

I'd love to live forever provided I had someone to share it with. I love history and I relish the events we face today. I play a game where I try to see which events are going to have significant consequences in the big picture versus events that only seem big at the time. Death depresses me when I realize all the history I'm going to miss, the advances I'll never see, the ebb and flow of social patterns...sigh!

Granted I believe in reincarnation (don't know why, I just do), but I think I'd like to keep a constant stream of consciousness across the eons instead of having it interrupted by death.

I suppose that would be based on the individual.
Also, people undoubtedly fear the unknown. Therefore, since we know nothing of what may happen after we expire, many people fear it.
Perhaps some are afraid of the pain and/or terror involved in dying a certain way e.g. Plane Crash.

Reincarnation is a great way to have immortality without that pesky business about having to watch everything change.

So why are so many of the people who believe in it optimists like you?

  11. Because it's coming up to Christmas and this year man yearns for something which isn't socks.

On some documentary. I don't know how legitimate the findings are and to be honest i don't care. It sounded good at the time.

Of course most people want to live forever that's why 3/4 of the world follow religion.

And animals have no concept of death.

I think there's just so much to do and so little time....

But I guess after a while it would get boring. Even if we could travel throughout the universe.

    ....
    So please kill me.
    I mean... later.

I just don't get it, why does everyone say it's so unknown. The way I see it there are only 4 posibilities (is that spelled right?) :
    1. eternal damnation
    2. eternal bliss
    3. reincarnation
    4. the end

because we can never truly know which it is, as the only way to find out would be to die, and theres not much you can do once your dead.

i would personally like it because,

i would be able to travel the universe and explore its beauty,
i would be able to train and get stronger and faster for eternity, always finding new challenges,
i would be able to learn mass amounts of knowledge, and keep a huge planitary liberary, and keep the knowledge of the universe in there,
and be able to keep peace and order int he universe with my team of power ranger super heroes with cheesy outfits and punchlines, oh and plastic weaponary,

    peace,

    immortality is not fun...
    everyone is immortal...

deep within... people sense they're immortal...
and because they identify themselves with their body...
they wish immortality for the body... the same body...
    that is impossible...

    destruction must exist...
    death is good...

    when this body dies...
    it makes no difference...
    because other people still live...
and the same self is in them...
    as in all of us...
    life can not end...
    it is a nightmare...

    we were born from nightmares...
    to take over this world...
we made the it sleep endlessly...
if it does not wake up...
    this island will never disappear
    our... world... our... world...

we would have been masters of this place...
but you had to come here and disrupt our plans...
    you can never defeat us...
