1) should muslims assimilate into Western societies that they immigrate to
2) what special rights or privileges should be afforded to muslims in Western societies

it all depends if you are talking about religion or race.
if you consider muslims as a race of people then my opinion is:
1.sure they should
2.what makes you think your "special". no they shouldn't recieve special treatment
3.if they don't want to be here then "don't let the door hit you on the ass."
4.in the usa you will not be treated as a second class citizen.
5.on what basis would they be denied?
6.other what?the only "others" here are government workers.
7.none

if you consider "muslims" as religion then:
my answers are the same ecxept 5.
5.religion has no place in the government except for the public good.

I think before Muslims should be singled out , I think Jews who swear loyalty to Israel first MUST swear on oath of loyalty to their adoptive nations and renounce Israel . I believe Islam , Judaism and Christianity should be banned from Western nations as they are stone age concepts of philosophy which are alien to our Western civilization .

In so far as obeying that countries law - as long as it doesn't hinder from the pratice of religion - yes.

2) what special rights or privileges should be afforded to muslims in Western societies
Nothing other than what is allowed to other religions. If special days are set aside for jewish and christian observance then the same should be applied to all.

3) can or should non-conformists muslims be repatriated to their countries of origin
Non-coms on the since that they are breaking that countries law - yes. But the same should be true for all who break the law. If you were born in the country you currently reside in however, not much can be done.

Why should/would they be?

5) should muslims be denied government jobs or military duty in host countries
No

6) would muslims always be the “other” in Western societies
No, they really weren't until this current Administration/media made them the bad guys. Same situation with those from japan during WWII[?]. With every major war fought by this country, the "enemy" is always reduced to non-people.

7) What adjustments should Western societies make for muslims?
None. As long as they and all others are treated fair and equal, there should no need to adjust.

 

Maybe a more basic question: who are the Islamic infidels, Shia or Sunni?

Muslims should be free to practise what they believe and live where they like. The world belongs to the universe, not humans. There has been no inheritance as of yet.

No special rights at all. They should be treated as humans like the rest of us and allowed to practise religion like the rest of us.

Why? I don't understand why they should be sent home just because they won't do as they are told. Most westerners don't do as they are told.

Never. They should be treated as equals.

Never. Again they are equal.

Not in my eyes. They are not the other. There are many different groups in all societies. Alot of these groups disagree with most things western governments have to say. Muslims should not be picked out when others are not.
7) What adjustments should Western societies make for muslims?
No adjustments other than allowing them to live with their beliefs in our society without hinderance. Mostly that works, well here in Glasgow there is no problem. Everybody (minus the odd few) all get along pretty well.

Yes. In the West, religion should be a private thing, and not mixed with politics. However, this rule doesn't just apply with Muslims, but also with Christians, Hindus, and Jews. It also applies to nationalities whose cultures differ radically from their adopted country.

2. Stop persecuting them in their adopted country if they are just minding their own damn business.

3. Lead by example. Stop invading Arab countries in an attempt to Westernize them, and stop attempting to destroy Islam (even fundamentalism) in Arab countries. Perhaps then the minority of fundamentalist Muslims who refuse to assimiliate into Western society will return the favour.

I think everyone within any nation should be required to look, think and act exactly alike.

All Americans should be like all other Americans. Ditto for British, Spainish, German, Italian, etc. And they should all be kept separate ...any communication should be via telephone or other non-visual device.

Muslims should just shut the hell up for once. Just for once in their life time, shut the fuck up. Why should everybody try and accommodate you? Are you guys the only oppressed non western culture? The church has an all powerful God but still collects millions of currency from hard working men and women every now and then, shouldn’t this people buy their way to heaven by now, after all they did buy the church. Is it not the same church years ago that proclaimed noble followers buy salvation with money till martin Luther had his bright idea? There is never anything fair with religion, I wonder how peace of mind can be achieved in such a materialist and pandemonium corner. Every Sunday some douche bag called a preacher collects the money of the people and that’s the way things are, I don't know if people are stupid or just plain subconscious. Just for once why can’t the church give people back their money? Even dirt bags like the government give back taxes every once in a while. Some God we have, takes all the money, demands this and that, and never even once gives any thing back, not even a “hello, how are you. I made you, keep up the good work, I am watching you”. Shucks! To me there is no price or sacrifice for peace.
