is it true that the socitey we live in only finds it preactical to alow adults to obtain companionship and love? Being 17 it seems no one wants me and my girlfriend to love and are always down playing are feeling for each other. I have asked myself are 2 people at are age capable of loving each other and I think we are. When I know that i just want to fall asleep next to her and wake up next to her beautiful face that is love to me. When the only thing that will make me feel better is hearing her voice and trusting her, that is love to me. So my question is how can socitey take something so beautiful and destroy it by limiting it only to adults? I have hope that my love will never stray from her and I have trust in her love for me. to me love is putting everything on the line, balls to the wall. love is something that can bring great pain of magnificent joy which you will experiance is up to you.
"Embrace love and it will set you free" I wish more people belived that.
Those are my ideas please post your own i'd like to hear some on this subject.

Although I'm three years younger than you are I have been in the same situation before. While I was on my little escapades I managed to go out once and even gave her poetry (look at the poetry arena thread, the last page, that's not something I gave her but an example of what I can write). The whole thing didn't turn out the way it to but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. Here's some advice:

-It probably won't work out. There's plenty of fish in the sea, and I swear to god that eventually you will get over her. This means that you shouldn't listen to yourself when you think of asking her on a date (it won't work, she'll say no).

-No matter how ugly you think you are the fact is that you're probably wrong, that you're not drop dead gorgeous but still a looka. When you ask her she will almost definitely say yes, and if she says no then she's a total asshole (you could say that she only values looks if this happens).

That's not true. Love never brings suffering. The lack of it or the ignorance of it and about it is what brings suffering...

I say that in all my posts... you can see even in my signature...

As late as a few weeks ago, I was saying I don't know what the word (love) means. But... November. I think about her ALL the time, and thinking about her makes me smile. Everything she says makes me smile. I want her like I've never wanted anyone in my life. Maybe it means other stuff for other people, but so far that's what it means to me.

The definition of "love" changes as you grow older. Somewhere along the way, "responsibility" starts to play a large role. My first love was more for myself than anyone else. Now it is more about doing for those whom I love.

Good question for which there are many answers, I'm sure.

smiles love has many definitions and most adults do discount teen love. I am not saying it's right but it is based on so many people in our past being in love, but MORE than once I think. My first love was "forever too" lol that was many guys ago, and I said "mom this is different"..Enjoy what you have and let us adults be skeptical as it's mostly because we didnt find the real thing at your age

Implicit in any love is the looming reality that it will end. There is always a conclusion. Even at the beginning, you can feel it. This is the essence of the human experience - simultaneous brilliance and sorrow.

    Porfiry,

The true Love is forever... the love we know is not.
The true Love is timeless... so how can it finish?

Between the age of 13 and 19 there is a vast emotional desert most of us must cross where one can not have the affection of a little kid or that of an adult. Its a wierd desert where every one has water they can share but rarely do. On the other hand teenage pregnancies could change your life in a hurry. Its tough. Some don't make it across.
    Now STDs complicate matters further.

I once had a panel of Jesuit Priests ask me to define love. I have to tell you it was an annoying question for something that already moves within every healthy soul.

Good luck finding both rapture and trust. If you love yourself, its out there.

Love is most definitely something that's different to each person. But generally, it's when one wants to give something good to another, without being judgemental and accepting the receiver as a whole.

This sort of thing is not just experienced by 2 lovers, love can be seen almost anywhere. E.g. An owner and his dog, a mother and daughter.

It's not just what's on the outside, it's the inside as well that matters.

Indeed...how much more painful can it be? It's like an emotional knife stab in the heart when that happens.

Love is like cement. The longer you stay in it, the harder it is to get out, and no matter what happens, you always leave an impression.

    true love?

"love" its a verb thats thrown around all to much as well as hate but to explain it how? EVERYONE has been in love so they say but to truly love is it a natural instinct? thats the only i can seem to explain it because look at it this way. damn near everyone i know has loved so if love wasnt an instinct then why would everyone do it? then if one loses his/her love they hesitate loving again. like touching a stove if you do it you will never want to do it again but we end up doing it again maby by accident but we still do. i have been in love and i thought i was heartbroken before that now i can see what heartbroken is. she is talking about sleeping with my best friend and it hurts so bad. we were going out for more than 3 years and they were the only thing that kept me alive now i feel like giving up. so i leave you with this when you do fall in love then just stop and think how bad will it hurt?
