I prefer a good RPG, although an adventure à la Zelda or Castlevania never hurts.

Don't play video games anymore, too much of a pointless time wasting.
Sometimes I play interactive fiction games though, hadn't played them for years.

I do martial arts, also like hiking.

thousandss of people play the first one everyday
This is just good for the fucking business.
ANd they can make a monopoly for fps on pc, since call of duty 2 was a let down.

Nope total waste of time, life is too short for spending hours on end starting at a box that has visual images to fill the mind with useless nonsense, we alreadt have sensory overload in everyday life. with-out having to self induce it when we get home, vidoe games are for those with short attention spans.

I also do martial arts, but you gotta admit that when youve been training for 3-4 hours, 4 times a week, there are times when all you wanna do is 'veg-out', i cant think of a better way than behind the controls of a good old Xbox, hacking alien scum to bits with double sub-machine guns, go Halo 2...jesus, i gotta calm down! :m:

Enemy Territory is the only game I have played consistently for the last 2 years. It's an online game which is free to download and you don't need Wolvenstein to play it. If you can find a good server it's one of the best online FPS games.

P.S. I don't know why FPS games are popular on consoles, they are far more constrictive than PC versions.

Well even though you said that you don't mean other stuff that I do already my first answer is that those things would fill the gap. There would be more jogging, weights (im still pretty skinny), guitar, ect. I would get a lot more reading done. I don't read nearly as much as I used to.

Those are all good for stress. Remember I work in IT and I need something interesting to grab me at the end of the day.

By the way duendy I go to every music festival and rave that I can. I am interested in your opinions on dancing (although I am sure I wont agree).

Taking up a martial art is an excellent idea.

I'm about 3 months or so away from realizing how incredibly gay WoW is.

Last few days I've been getting kick out of playing joust (the 80s game) on some site. It's the same as the real game. Pretty fun.

I don't understand how people can play FPS's on a console. A joystick is such a crappy way to aim. I need a mouse to aim. I was thinking of getting back into quake but I heard quake 4 is really just a less efficient regurgitation of the same same. My favorite FPS EVER was the UT (originial or 2003) Overkill CTF mod. Goddamned madness! Every weapon is amped to like 10 times its normal rate of fire and increased in strength. Running for your life with the flag while you're trying to cram your boomstick down some bitch's gullet is pure adrenaline man - if you're into it I mean. Man I love that shit when I'm on fire. I need to re-install that game. Death Dealer shall live again.

I disagree that gaming is a waste of time, and there have been studies that show that children who are introduced to games have better hand-eye coordination and better problem solving skills then their TV watching counterparts. MMO Gaming is enjoyable for me once my kids go to bed, and it's fun to interact with people from all over the world. The monthly fee is cheaper than one trip to the movies and when you are already tied to your home because of certain things, I don't see it as a "waste of time". TV is boring, and there aren't enough new releases on DVD to keep me watching more than once or twice a week. I have plenty of friends who come over and hang out, and get outside a lot on the weekends. I think that as long as you keep gaming in moderation, it's plenty healthy and even productive. I've had great debates with friends, talked politics and philosophy. I've knitted socks for a friend in Puerto Rico, and sent cookies to other friends in college and friends serving in the military overseas. I've have online friends come over for dinner, and one who is a lawyer work on some paperwork with me that I needed to get done.

The gaming industry is a ten billion dollar industry. It surpassed Hollywood in revenue last year much to everyone's amazement. It gets a bad rap, because the media is largely unknown to anyone in the 35+ bracket. They don't understand why people "waste their time" on gaming. They assume it is an addictive gross waste of time, but there is something more to it. There are millions of active gamers in the US, and more in Asia and Europe that are enjoying their gaming life. The games being produced are interactive, enjoyable, rich and full of creativity. Something that movies really lack these days. There has rarely been a movie or TV show in the last 5 years that I can say didn't resemble at least 3 other movies. Games, are a different story. It's an interactive book, where you get to be and control the character or characters. And it's getting better every year.

WoW is stunning. The landscapes, the monsters, the characters are gorgeous. The quests are fun, but not diverse enough for me... but that will come with time. I am used to Everquest which had 5 years of development behind it's belt and comparing it to WoW isn't fair. There are enough quests to get you to level 60, that's for sure. And enough things in the game that set you apart from one another (tree based skill sets that branch out very far). I really loved WoW, but eventually got to the end game, and there is nothing but repetitive instances to plod through. Patches have added a lot of new content since I left, but I think I'll give it a good amount of time before I log back in. I did play for 6 months of beta, and then 5 months of release, so it's very "been there, done that" for me.

I game a lot, probably 10-15 hours a week after 8 p.m. until sometimes around midnight. I play with my husband, and we enjoy gaming. It gives us something to do together when we can't leave the house and don't want to spend $60 (babysitter + movie + food) to go out for the evening. We even have a Gamefly account (www.gamefly.com) where we pay a monthly fee to rent as many console games as we want a month without having to buy them. There are even children's games that are teaching tools that we let the kids play from time to time. Reader Rabbit (an PC software game) taught my son to read at 4 years old. He's hearing impaired, so reading to him wasn't an option but with noise reducing headphones, his hearing aids and this game, he is now reading to me. I don't think it's a waste of time at all.

Games can be thrilling and fun. They can make you sweat out belly crawling through the jungle trying not to be seen and soaring through the air in a bomber scoping for your next target. Continually better AI and online gaming that pits player against player has greatly increased that. I think that people who assume that all gamers are pimply freaks who have no friends and never leave the house should have been at this years E3... they would have been surprised. I work out 4 days a week, have a great job, am involved in all sorts of community activities as well as being an active gamer. I don't see a problem. Are there people who indulge too much? Sure, but I think that could be said for any industry. I'd prefer a room full of teenage gamers to a room full of teenage ravers any day... you?

I remember the first time we ever saw Defender in the arcades. I think it was 5 buttons and a joystick. How in the hell was anyone ever going to manipulate all that?!?

Does anybody remember the old black & white, line drawing format of "Death Race"? I first saw that one at the Alameda County Fair. It was pretty funny. While other kids' parents were pulling them away from the game with disgusted looks, MY parents were standing behind us yelling "GET HIM! GET HIM!"

Yeah, sometimes they were the parents from Hell, other times they were the coolest things ever to walk the planet. They honestly didn't mind that we'd spend hours upon hours at the arcade. It was like my dad didn't want video games in the house (see prior post regarding him and TV speakers vs. Atari's "Combat"), but if was somebody else's screen we were burning images into, somebody else's speakers we were destroying with all those growls and sudden changes in pitch, then we could go ahead and play until our eyes fell out and our ears dropped off. Our friends would be like "Oh man, has it been 30 minutes already? I gotta go home or my folks'll be pissed that I spent so much time here." We were more "Must...shoot...asteroids. Must...avoid...Evil Otto. Must...stop...Space Invaders."

Heck, who DOESN'T play some sort of video game? Heh.

I play only on the PC. Current games I'm playing are Civilization IV, Battlefield 2, Quake 4, Dungeon Siege II, F.E.A.R., Half-Life 2, and Far Cry. And the games I'm waiting for is the Battlefield 2 expansion pack next week and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in a couple months. Oh yeah, and UFO:Aftermath whenever the heck it comes out. And speaking of Aftermath, the Half-Life 2 expansion pack of the same name once it comes out as well.

RTCW: Enemy Territory is a pretty cool game. I used to play that all the time for a couple years until I switched on over to BF2.

And yeah, the ColecoVision and Intellevision rock. My ColecoVision broke down like 6 years ago but I still have around three games for it. My Intellevision still works and I have about 30-40 games for it and half their original boxes and instructions, and almost all their plastic strips. I still use it every now and then to play D&D's Treasures of Tarmin, heh. Fun 3D dungeon crawler.

I can't believe you said BF2 appeals to you because of the realism. I really cannot believe you just said that. That is a crime. BF2 is pure arcade. I like it, I enjoy playing it. I'm a Corporal at the moment, but hell, it's not realistic. Show me a soldier that bunny-hopped around trying to shoot me with a rifle then giving up and doing a bunny-hop to prone missile launcher to the face and maybe I'll accept that. And show me a guy who got shot 5 times and still managed to kill the guy who was shooting him from an advantageous position and I'll accept that. The only realistic thing about BF2 is the weapon names (and even some of them are wrong!). You sir are a blasphemer

And yes, I play video games. Completed CoD2 last weekend, was a good quick escape. British campaign brought a tear to my eye (reminded me too much of what my great-grandfather did). I'm an avid FPS player and I will brain anyone who says Halo is better than CoD or that there are too many WW2 games. I'll tell you what though, Chrome:SpecForce is a hidden gem. A semi-realistic shooter set in the future and it's at a bargain price.

Also, anyone gonna get Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (and if anyone says Ghost Recon 2 is awesome...they won't be living very long, that almost killed the whole franchise for a lot of people)?
