    why?...worried about theft?

only way to fly man....no way to color like that without a tablet...unless you've trained yourself to level of such dexterity and have a patience of a monk......

I draw on paper, scan it in and then color it.....great for coloring but im still not good enough to straight up draw on pc too.

partially, but mostly because I'm a pussy. I don't even sign the shit I sell or am commissioned to do.

believe it or not, thats exactly how I do it. I actually like the micro preciscion of it, I kinda go into a semi-trance after a few hours and I tend to do my best stuff in that zoned out state. Then again, I hadn't considered using a tablet for just that so its something to think about.

I was more curious about actual sketching with a tablet though, have you done it? Does high end make a big difference (there seems to be a very wide price range)?

They look too... "slippery" is the only word I can think of. Like I'd miss the friction of the paper texture against a pencil if that makes any sense.

When they are brand spanking new they are very slippery....easy way to overcome that is to place a regular sheet of printing paper (or whatever paper you prefer) and place it on top of the surface for that "drawing on paper" feel.

as for the technology....it really doesn't matter as far as I am concerned. Sure a 18x18 drawing surface would be nice with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity but you can do the same ass thing with a regular 6x8 with only 512 levels of sensitivity (like mine)....

its like using a cue stick in a game of pool....doesn't really matter how expensive the stick, matters how good you are in the game.

It still way, WAY, more easier to color with than a mouse...there isn't even a comparison.

As for drawing with it...its a matter of getting use to it. I can draw fairly well with it but its faster and easier to draw on paper and scan it high res.

jesus, I'm a idiot. I could even switch stocks depending on the feel I'm looking for. I really can't believe that never occured to me.

OK, you totally sold me. I did think I'd need to get a 18x18 but that is a bit decadent (not to mention I'd need a bigger desk now that I think it through). I do think I'll splurge on the sensitivity though, I want as much of my stroke as possible to translate since I play with line weight quite a bit.

anyway, thanks for the info, I've been wavering for a year now but I'll definitely get one now. I'll give you the stats when I pick it up and tell you what I think.

Plus, now I can blame any issues or buyers remorse on you.

A fictional character from my alternate history, born in 1756, began his reign in 1790, died in 1840. Here he is shown in combat, commanding troops at the Battle of Hameln, 1798.
    Hope ya'll like it.

First I did for a reflective surface art class assignment last year(most people opted for some sort of metalic or glass surface, I found this cool picture of a lady with shiny skin and a trombone). First painting I've ever attempted(other than a watercolor landscape).

Second on my free time; I referenced a certain famous photo.

You guys all realize that the contest was based on the old "Pay for shizzle" model, and now that sciforums gives most of that shit away for free that its pointless? Anyways, I guess this has just become an art exhibition thread

But if you want, I can go through and find all the 'best' ones and make a poll for them and see who REALLY comes out on top (i would probably vote for lardboy myself)
