http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4372360.stm Look how sweet! This piece of news warms my heart this morning. What other city does this?
The myth surrounding New Yorkers as rude or unpersonable is an urban legend. I lived in Princeton, New Jersey a few years ago and was totally surprised to find New Yorkers are like any other city, you gotta take the good with the bad, but generally, they are very nice.
London people are far more rude in my opinion. New yorkers are pretentious but not neccessarily rude; they complain about how primitive every where else is.
Perhaps that's what's so wrong with our society today ....the idea that somehow we SHOULD HAVE to accept the bad! Where did that concept ever arise in the first place? And why? Baron Max
There is a difference between accepting the bad (and leave it as it is) on one hand, and on the other hand, accepting the bad and try to make ourselves think it is not bad. To accept does not equal to condone. But to not accept is to try to present reality for what it is not.
Water, I was trying to say that we should accept it at all! We should know it's bad and fix it, get rid of the bad. Accepting it might not be condoning it, but it's surely the next step, ain't it? Baron Max
I'd never support legislation that required someone to be nice and personable. I think you are trying to equate rude and unpersonable with crime.
Baron what are you going to do about that volvano under your house? Tell it to push off cause its your house or accept that it happens and run like hell?
Are you saying that crime in New York is something that will simply keep growing until it forces others to run like hell? Are you saying that that's all that the citizens can do about it? ...just let it happen without even trying to prevent it? Just let the criminals have New York? If that's not waht ye're saying, please explain. Baron Max
So since you spotted the missing word(s), you have nothing to say about the "corrected" comment? Or are you asking for clarification? I thought, and apparently you did too, that the missing word was so obvious that one could overlook it as a typo. Perhaps I was wrong. Baron Max
no i was just saying there are just some sitty things that happen which you cant do anything but accept. If you dont accept ANYTHING then your never going to be happy
Baron Max, I sense that a long discussion is to ensue, if we are to go into the problems of "To accept is to condone?", "To forgive is to approve?", "To not accept is to indulge a fantasy!", and so on -- these matters can actually be resolved in a thread of their own. Saying "We should know it's bad and fix it, get rid of the bad." -- that's a tough deal. You first have to prove that your morality and your right to live as you wish are superior to the morality and rights of others whom you consider bad. But be that as it may, I think that one first has to accept something, accept it for what it is, before one can attempt to do something about it. If one, from the beginning on, refuses to accept something, ie. refuses to see the thing for what it is, then it will be very hard, if not impossible, to do something about it, except being angry. Question is, is one acting on one's prejudice or preconception, or on mindful observation?
Nope, not with me! If I were to have such psycho-babble discussions with myself, I'd never do anything or get anything done ....good, bad, or otherwise. Self-preservation has actually worked extremely well for gazillions of years in the natural world and everything seemed to be just fine .....until man came along and fucked it all up! Now we have polluted rivers and lakes, polluted skies, concrete and asphalt were grass used to be and we're adding more and more concrete and asphalt every day, ...and a slew of other such problems. And instead of calling it "bad", we make excuses for it and call it the "rights" of others (to fuck up our entire planet!). Now we have criminals (in New York and elsewhere) who want to do nothing but rape, assault and kill, yet you want to question my morality in calling them bad and wanting to get rid of them. And worse, you probably want to give them the "right" to rape, assault and kill ....all because you can't decide the issue of "morality". I hope you keep such bleeding heart ideals when one of your family is raped, assaulted and murdered. Baron Max
Bwahahahahaha! I've visited Canada last summer. I'd say New Yorkers and Canadians are polar opposites, eventhough they may like each other.
