Has anyone ever had a car repossessed? Or known anyone to have had the misfortune of that happening. My friend is 4 months behind on her carpayments due to illness and GMAC is not being very understanding (for obvious reasons). How long before they will repo it if she doesn't give them some money soon?

    Funny story.

I have a friend who financed a Plymouth Duster. I forget the year, but this car was sweet. Used to be a show car. Had a big ass hood scoop (although the engine wasn't the show engine anymore and the hood scoop was superfluous). This car was just plain mean...

Anyway. Another feature was that the door handles were removed and there were buttons in the wheel wells to open the doors.

So. My buddy was getting drunk over at a buddy's house and one of his frieds comes up and says "Hey, man, someone's outside fucking with your car..." So. He goes out and looks and sure enough some dude is out there fucking with his door. So, he goes out and gives the old "What the fuck?"

The guy says, "I'm here to repossess your car blah blah and you have 30 seconds to get your personal effects out of the car."

So, my buddy pops open the door. Hops in the car. Shuts the door.

The guy's outside getting frantic. Trying to figure out how he just opened the door. Fumbling around in the wheel well but not having any luck.

My buddy fires up the car. Looks over at the guy as he pounds on the window and amkes his threats and blah blah. Flips him off. And drives off.

I wasn't there, but I can just imagine the fucker standing there in the street watching his repo get away from him.

    Hilarious.

He ended up cutting a deal with the bank later and still has the car. It's trashed now though. A real pity. That car was sweet back in the day...

Why is she behind? If she is truely sick then take a doctors letter to them and ask for reduced payments until she gets better. It's not that they take the car back, it that her credit report will be ruined for the next 10 years so if she's looking to get a loan in the future or get credit anywhere, she won't get it with this bad debt on her record. If I were her I 'd take the car back myself and try to avoid the repo man that is if she wants her credit to remain good.

I know it's a moot point but it is something I always wondered........
I always wondered why people don't simply sell the vehicle. True to the point of cosmictraveler the reproccusions to your credit will be far worse than the absense of the vehicle. I know it's easier said then done but I would have to think that there was an outside chance to make a payment to buy the time to get rid of it prior to the trouble it's caused. I know it isn't the case here but do people often take the position of it's me against them they aren't taking my vehicle. I had a friend who was a repo guy and they ALWAYS get the car.

    Duster?
    Sweet.

I had a Dart a few years back.
    She was sweet.

A guy once told me I should paint a picture of the sun under the hood so the car always thinks it sunny cause a Dodge don't wanna run in the rain.

    Never was an issue.

not really, my mates and brother burned out at the beach after it died, but since crashing through a wire fence accidentally was considered a crime, once they managed to find the other vin numbers(they took off the plates and removed the obvious VIN plate) they cops tried to pin them with conspiracy to pervert the cause of justice for burining it out. luckily the judge saw what a stupid charge it was and let them off(still $500 of legal fees beforehand tho)
