By trolling for responses only shows me that you really don't care about what you say but only how to produce antagonism.

At least 50% of opinions are lies that does not mean that an individual is not entitled to believe as they chose.

50% of opinion may be misinformed but are not necessarily lies.

The Holocaust was so terrible in comparison to other butcheries because of the systemised nature by which the nazis went about their ugly business. One of the reasons we know that the body count was so high is that they kept records of everything at every temple of destruction and centrally. They were actually proud of their efficiency! The Nuremberg trials got most of the damning evidence from the nazis own records and those records still exist today. The Holocaust is one of the most well documented and evidenced atrocities ever committed and but the allied forces knew what was going on all along.

It was unique. Genocide isn't unique, but such methodical and systematic genocide performed in cold blood using the methods of mass production in a modern western supposedly civilized country is unique.

I cannot help but believe that some contributors to this thread have some Hollywood caricature of a Nazi in their heads. Half-human, devoid of emotion, cold-blooded, methodical, sinister, calculating --- and preposterous. Somehow the crime of such creatures has to be something of a different nature to one of the episodes of mass-murder planned at the Vatican, for example, or carried out by an Oriental despot.

Please remind yourself next time you watch such a caricature that it simply cannot be taken seriously! How much wiser you would be if you understood the sheer ordinariness of those responsible for the awfulness of war. (Think of little bespectacled clerk Eichmann – looking more Jewish than many of his victims.) How ordinary the Boer father and sons who went out with their firearms after breakfast to shoot a few Hottentots. How ordinary the generations of Americans who held the opinion that “the only good injun is a dead injun”.

Nazi atrocities were very like atrocities across the ages. (They generally lacked the element of deliberate cruelty - such as mutilation, impaling, burning - that is sometimes a characteristic.) Naturally, Ghenghis Khan did not use modern methods like lethal injection, but he was very up-to-date in some ways. Naturally, body counts did not run into millions when the world’s population was much smaller.

Why the insistence that the Nazis were “methodical and systematic” in a way that others were not? Not only is it insulting to several Popes, it is not particularly true. Get down to the details of shifting Nazi policy towards the Jews and the diversity of their treatment, and you find much less “system” and far more “shambles” than you might expect. But then life’s like that . . . you must have noticed.

Ghengis Khan wasn't genocidal like the Nazis were. Khan was decidedly imperialist– he killed everyone indiscriminately. He even killed his brothers. Khan killed lots of people, but he killed them to keep them in line. He had no overriding philosophy about a master race or any such notion. He borrowed greatly from other races, enlisting all kinds in his armies. Khan was a depsot, pure and simple.

    I cannot help but agree.

The extermination that the Nazis carried out was unprecedented in scale. Surely, there were anti-Jew mobs and waves of anti-Jewis sentitment. Kristallnacht was a perfect example. But these efforts were out of hate and rage. Mob violence is great for instilling fear, but inefficient to exterminate whole peoples.

Nowhere in history has such a vast bureaucracy been set up for killing people. The vast majority of people involved in the holocaust were paper pushers, doing menial, mindless tasks. Things like keeping boxcars running on time, cyanide gas up to stock, or coordinating the movement of grain.

I believe the vast majority of Germans simply carried out orders. A bureaucracy compartmentalizes ones job, removing the bureaucrat from what he is doing. Upon that were several other factors. First was the extreme nationalism of the German people. Protest was treason, especially during WWII. Second, Hitler's Final Solution was implemented gradually in a decidedly anti-Jew state. It wasn't yellow stars one day and gassing the next. He took the Germans step by step from a normal racism to an unparalleled extreme.

And all the time, everyone was just following orders.

You are making my point for me, River Ape, it was the very ordinaryness of the procedure that is most distressing, and the most extraordinary. This implies that any bureaucracy could slip into such a murderous but emotionally detached rampage at any time.

spidergoat has made my point for me by pointing out that any bureaucracy could slip into a repressive government ay any time which is why you do not want to allow laws that restrain freedom of expression therefore laws that criminalize disagreeing with the officially accepted details of the Holocaust are the first step back to totalitarianism.

I can't argue with a guy who says that the ordinaryness was extraordinary!

And what methodology did the statisticians who testified at Nuremburg use? How exactly did they obtain the 6 million figure? Did they count the dead bodies? Oh wait, the Nazis kept the records nicely filed away so that British and U.S propangadist retards could find them and use them during the Nuremburg trials, right?

Please tell me. This aught to be interesting. Parrots often claim that anyone is skeptical of the 6 million are 'ignorant', yet are unable to example how the figure was obtained.

When a scientist states that a skeleton in 5 million years old, you can question his methodology. He explains the method of radiocarbon dating, and nobody sneers at you.
But when you question how a figure of 6 million was obtained (which is obviously an estimate), people scream 'anti-semite', and 'I learnt it at high school, so there!'

Funny how countries such as Germany and Israel don't allow anyone to express their views regarding the matter. If those 'denying' or 'attempting to minimize' the Holocaust are such ridiculous liars, then what are the authorities afraid of? Is it necessary for them to control free thought and speech?

I expected that of Israel, but not a decent country like Germany.

Well, you can count the survivors.

Substract that from the total amount.

and you end up with a reasonable estimate.

but anyhoo...a quick survey with google leads to many proper references (not just internet trash). Go ahead do it yourself.

I will just quote this comment. It seems appropriate to previous statements:

The total amount of what? Jews in German occupied territory, or Jews captured by the Germans? How would you know how many Jews were captured by the Germans?

And it is folly to assume that every Jew captured by the Germans and died MUST have died from gassing. Malnutrition and disease existed back in the 1930's and 1940's, ya know!

Just do some simple google searching and then go to the library to fetch some proper literature.

Denying the Holocaust is an act of Anti-Semitism, and as such should be criminalized. The U.S.A. needs to get on board with Europe on the anti-hate speech laws.

The Nazis knew that, it was cheaper than Zyklon-B, but slower. Those deaths are included, since you couldn't get adequate food or medicine in the ghettos or, later, the camps.

The Constitution of the United States prohibits abridging the freedom of speech; the people of the USA are not going to change this because your feelings have been hurt. There is a lot more at risk than hurt feelings.

What has the spreading of hatred got to do with freedom of speech?
