    Hum,
    Don’t worry,
It seems to be quite normal, given that global warming is here to stay (er, until it goes away).

if it makes landfall in eastern texas, where there is 12 major oil refinieries (suppling 1/4 of the u.s refined oil), gas prices are expected to hike to $5 a gallon

omfg global warming! the same theory that says that methane actually retains heat at this planet's average temperatures (it doesn't), and ironically is the basis for the kyoto protocol! it basically says 1st world countries must cut back on emissions, while communist superpowers like... CHINA get to INCREASE. suspicious, anyone? right, of course it is, so let's blame two hurrianes in a row on Bush, since he has a big lever in his office that does that.

but damn, this is the earth science board, pardon me for conspiracy theory, i felt it was relevant.

But you get that back in services, since most of the difference is tax.

That's only partially true, isn't it? I mean, you get that back ONLY if you suck at the tit of the rest of society, right?

I don't know what the UK spends it's petrol tax money on, if it's something like road maintenence, then every driver would benefit. Hopefully, it's something like mass transit.

Oh, here's a handy chart: Figure 1: Taxation on petrol in cents per litre for selected OECD countries

On an island as small as England, and with so many people, taxing gas is a good way to discourage driving, prevent unneccessary build up of automobile infrastructure (LA, Worst City in the World, is something like 60% automobile infrastructure– parking, pavement, etc.), and cut down on emissions.

to clarify, i think global warming is a highly over-exagerated myth, and that bush is getting way too much flak for a failure in social services that was not in his direct control, but in the hands of many other capable and responsible people.

Global warming is not a myth.

The debate is about whether humans are responsible for it.
Most of that has been settled in the US.

Not all that rare, really. Records seem to indicate the the number and intensity operate on a 20 - 30 year cycle. That should give you some perspective.

sorry but the more i read the more i am not sure global warming is not a myth, its part of a natural cycle from hot to cold and back and forth but from the records of our planets past I really wouldn't worry to much about alot of heat because the climate has shifted abruptly in the past and could very easily do it again, with whats going on with our oceans, the temps, some of the glaciers melting some growing its hard to tell
