So you are proud of your intellect, but should you?

To what extent should man pride in his accomplishments given his relative short time on this planet? To what extent should man simply say "I'm the shit, I control this planet, and every animal, tree, river, etc is beneath me and under my control if I so choose to control? Man after all was previously under the control of these things, and now man is supreme on earth. Why shouldn't he therefore gloat at his achievements and mock, if he wants, the failures of nature whose evolutionary paths lead their being virtual slave of man? This morality or rationalization that man creates and results in his rationalization that pride is dangerous, inhumane or is wrong-- what is wrong with this, is anything wrong with this? Extended, should the best of man see the worst or weakest of man as failures of evolution to be viewed contemptuously? Should we look down on our intellectual inferiors?

If you answered 'yes' to most, then you are a failure of an 'intellectual'. One, because you are a victim who has divulged and borrowed incomplete philosophy, or you an insecure and intelligent, but still lacking when compared to the great intellectuals in the history of man. Instead of feeling pride at your intellect or current position in man’s evolution, realize that you ignore the fact that you've done nothing to help man get here. You have achieved nothing and will most likely achieve nothing that will help better man as a race. You are a pathetic second, a byproduct of a man whose exaltation is based on compares to his inferiors and not his superiors. You are inferior.

My point, we sequence and guide compares in any scenario from a viewpoint that betters us in the conclusion, and without an exerted effort to counter this I think innate stance, we group and attempt to cheat our way to claim the accomplishments of the group. Ergo, the populous as opposed to nature as a whole, ergo the special as opposed to the populous, ergo the scientist as opposed to the non-scientist, ergo the engineer, ergo the intellectual, ergo sciforums.com as opposed to chat.com. But where is the individual?

Yep. And I would like to direct yours truely attention to grades in schools. Anyway I think the underlying reason why we are this far is because of though control. Schools should not have grades, they only make you look stupid for wasting time and money, zap away your self esteem, and pretty much ruin everything you ever thought was yours. It is philosophy that brought us maths and many ideas we use today so we should cool down with the grades. A little bit of out of the box perspective will not hurt anyone. And yes we are so not in control, we have more sufferings and needs than the domesticated dog, but which in a stupifying way prohibits our intellect and also makes us the alpha specie; sort of like a reward. We carry all the sins and virtues of all that is living, someone has to do it don't you agree?

There's always gonna be someone/thing that comes along who's better than the current best to knock them off their pedestal. This is one of the reasons why everyone should be humble.

Fuck humble. You're all idiots. You have no idea of where man fits into the greater equation, assuming, of course, that man even has an idea of where he fits into the equation. Woman. Who the fuck knows. Who the fuck gives a shit where man or woman fits into any equation.

Do you at all contribute to this forum outside inane comments overly littered with obscenities and pathetic attempts at humour? And humility is not the response one should have after reading my post, but you, idiottop, are so far off the mark it's not even funny.

I've posted something similar on another forum. To summarize, many people could accomplish great things but lack of motivation and persistence destroy this potential: then, are we nothing more than loud mouths with no outstanding talents ?

One thing is quite sure, structure breeds conformity, which is the opposite of intelligence.

i think the adage "no man is an island" holds true in most instances
ideas and innovations do not arise in a vacuum but is a resultant from the ones that anteceded it.

when one gives credit to others, it acknowledges their role in the endeavor. the issue then becomes about how expansive do you want to get. is there a question of limits? how much debt should you acknowledge? should an idea that has general acceptance be traced back to all its sources?

i ask you then, where and when did this original thought occur and to whom do we ascribe it to?

The individual is merely a concept, born from the comparison reasoning you sketched above.
That we exist as individuals is an illusion, just like any differentiation is an illusion. There are several ways to deal with this illusion, but the way of the "I am an individual" reasoning seems to be the most harmful so far in human history, it doesn't make anyone happy in the long run.

    you digress
yet it might be fun to to ask you to flesh out your assertions
    so please, explain the "illusion"
i do agree with the "harmful" part but see no need to support it with radical propositions and superlatives

Ponder all the things that you think you, as an individual, consist of. How many of them really have something to do with you, how many of them really are you?
Is your past you? Your knowledge? Your possessions? Your body?
Where is this you? What is it?

Is there anybody who owns the universe? Or anything in it?

(I'm not merely responding to your questions with more questions. I am asking my questions so that by answering them, you can come to your answers to your questions.)

It is yours only temporarily. You can't claim it. It can always be taken away from you, and there is nothing you could do to get it back 100%.
It is also impermanent, and it changes over time. Your car won't be the same in 30 years.
Someone smarter than you can take your copyrights away, or they may expire.
    Etc.

    jes kidding

the distinctions you make are minor
    that stuff is mine

there really is no point in getting too metaphysical in this thread as it is unwarranted.
so i shall consider only... ....Your knowledge?...
my position is contained in my initial post
    so i think we agree

    ummm....dinner?

I think I know what water's getting at. If I'm off the mark, I blame you.

Our ideas, our thoughts, our personality, attitude and even the way we speak are hardly our own. We're greatly influenced by our parents, our community, our peers, who we read and who believe. There's an underrecognition of how much everyone else in our experience makes us who we are.

The rugged individual could never exist without other people to call him rugged and other people to disagree with so one could be an individual.

We are so obviously social, so obviously a medley of those around us, that it seems altogether absurd and detrimental to deny how much of ourselves aren't ourselves.
