If you really love what you're doing then they both can be achieved simultaneously. For if you love the work you do it is also what you're doing for the future and can be happy today as well as the future.

IMO, it depends on whether or not you fear death, hunger or homelessness. If you are free of those fears, then you can more readily enjoy the moment, and would have very little stress.

You can also enjoy the moment if you are too blind to see the effects of your actions, and so don't fear the consequences because you are ignorant of them.
I think most people fall into this second catagory.
The fact that you are asking this question suggests that you do not.

I enjoy photography and use to go out daily and take pictures which I loved doing. I therefore was doing something for the future by working at it today. After I take those images I must develop them tomorrow so that's why what I enjoy doing today will keep me just as happy tomorrow.
