    Cheese and onion, probably.
Quite like scotch pies too, the ones with mutton in 'em.

    BTW.

How come Americans can't tell the difference between pies and cakes?

Sea pie is a French Canadian pie that has beef and chicken in it. It's like meat pie to the next level. It is usually eaten with mashed potatoes, green beand and ketchup.

    Key Lime Pie by GourmetSleuth

This is a recipe for "real" Key Lime pie. Real Key lime pie is not green and it does not have a soft "pudding" texture. The pie gets its true pale yellow color from the egg yolks that predominate the ingredient list. And the texture is a "firm custard". Be careful that you don't over-bake the pie or it will be "rubbery". For best results use fresh Key Limes, not bottled juice. The traditional preparation does not put any meringue on the top of the pie. This is a very simple recipe and only takes a few minutes to prepare and 12 minutes to bake.
    i n g r e d i e n t s (crust)
    16 graham crackers, crushed
    3 tablespoons sugar
1 cube (1/4 lb) margerine or butter

    d i r e c t i o n s (crust)
Mix the ingredients and press them into a 9" pie plate. Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 10 - 12 minutes until lightly browned. Place on a rack to cool.

    _________________________

    i n g r e d i e n t s (pie)
4 large or extra large egg yolks
1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup fresh key lime juice (approximately 12 Key limes)
2 teaspoons grated lime peel, green portion only
    Whipping cream for garnish (optional)

    d i r e c t i o n s (pie)
Use an electric mixer and beat the egg yolks until they are thick and turn to a light yellow, don't over mix. Turn the mixer off and add the sweetened condensed milk. Turn speed to low and mix in half of the lime juice. Once the juice is incorporated add the other half of the juice and the zest, continue to mix until blended (just a few seconds). Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake at 350F for 12 minutes to set the yolks and kill any salmonella in the eggs.

If you are using the whipping cream garnish, prepare the cream. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

    Key Limes

The Key Lime lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle), also referred to as a Mexican Lime, bears a profuse amount of small, thin-skinned, greenish-yellow limes. This juicy lime is known for its distinctive aroma high-acid content. The picture below shows the size and color difference between the more common Persian lime and the Key Lime.

Try our Key Lime Pots de Creme, just like key lime pie, with out the crust. And besides, a good excuse to use those pretty little pot de creme cups.

Key Lime Snow - A light lower fat chilled dessert

Key Lime Chiffon Pie - A delicious fluffier version

Key Lime Crostata - A key lime pie in a buttery tart shell

Key Lime Pound Cake - Topped with a key lime glaze.

Key Lime Sorbet - Uses key lime preserves for extra punch

Spicy meat pie with lots of beef tripe in it. And maybe a tiny bit of mashed potato mixed in, with the skins.

    Truly the best pie.

Sounds good, minus the ketchup for me though. I love things like chicken pot pie, etc., but I've never had any that is homeade. Just the store bought frozen kind.

Dee Cee Where are you from? I don't think we are as used to "meat" type pies as others like the English. I think we associate pie mainly with something that has a squishy, fruity filling, like a meat pie except without the meat, and use the word cake for things that have a different consistency, more centered around a flour based bread type thing. Then again, we call cheese cake, which is more like a pie, cake. Go figure.

We'd probably call something with cheese and onion in it a quiche, I think, but maybe a pot pie too.

while i respect all your opinions on the best pie, they are just that: opinions. I think the time has come to consider the TRUE meaning of "best pie"....and to find (drum roll...) the real best pie. It surely is not of mortal fruit/meat/ketchup/ect...but of celestial ingreidiants of divine and cosmic goodness!
but being the humble King of the Dunedain that I am, i cannot deduce what this "truely best pie" is...so what, praytell, do all u think of it?

    From another site:

Not necessarily my vote for the best pie, but an unusual one. And yes, I've had one, late at night, from a caravan parked in inner Adelaide. And I didn't even vomit afterwards!
