What is all this "there seems to be a problem with the database" crap? I have tried to log on so many times and had that, and just now I was trying to access a thread and it came up again, a couple of times. It really is annoying, why does it keep happening?

It's been explained in numerous threads before. Noobs should read more, if they're so interested in the subject.

You could easily have already saved him a lot of time, moron. How long do you think it would have taken him to search the database and found the answer, especially since he is having TROUBLE with the database. On second look, you are not that hot, you conceited, arrogant little russian bitch.

I think it's hillarious when people attribute real life social status to an internet "community." If I didn't know better i'd say that any of us who have too much of a life to fill these boards with posts that are most likely meaningless, were joining a fraternity or something along those lines!

Noob? Any idiot who calls another person that on a message board ought to take a few steps away from the computer, perhaps grad some sunshine outside and here's a radical thought - limit themselves to a few hours of computer time a week! Whitewolf, do us all a favor - get a life or if that's too difficult for yourself, keep your comments to yourself and if someone asks a question and you don't feel like being helpful and would just rather make yourself feel better by making them feel worse - just keep your comments to yourself.

    Cheers,
    Will

    Good points wkirby.

I'm glad this forum isn't like our "democracy" here in the good ole U.S. where thoughtful beings are beat down because their ideas don't fit with the mainstream.

You two are just pissy because you're newbs.

Anyway. You fail to take into consideration the function of this paticular brand of internet forum. This is not your run of the mill forum where people congregate to ROFL at each other. We actually seek interesting and intelligent conversation. And newbs are an unknown quality in this search. They've yet to prove themselves. They could be good for the community. Or they might be ignorant lollers.

Only time will tell. It's not post count that matters. There are many people here with relatively small post counts but are treated with respect because they hold themselves in an intelligent manner (mostly. No one says that people can't act juvenile on occasion.)

Anyway. Usually 'newb' comments are directed towards people that are asking stupid questions that shouldn't need to be asked.
Asking about the database for instance.
Take a cursory glance around the forum and you'll see posts and posts galore on the subject. And along comes this newb to ask, "Der. Which way did he go, George."

Yes. Perhaps Whitewolf was rude to the boy (or girl). So what? She has a legitimate reason. We're all a touch on edge about the situation.

But. Will. You're just a newb so you don't understand the forum dynamics yet.
    Heh.
You could be a lurker. Who knows. Whatever.

What did one blade of grass say to the other blade of grass?

(And. It's even stupider consider the 'save sciforums' label plastered everywhere. Derp.)

First let me point out that invert_nexus has only been a member three months longer than I have.

Here are a few gems from his comments:

"We actually seek interesting and intelligent conversation." At what point in your intelligent conversation do you begin to label people as "noobs?" I like to think that name calling ceases for most of us when we become intelligent enough to point out the ignorance in others without calling them names.

"We're all a touch on edge about the situation." You're a "touch on edge" about a situation on an internet message board?

"You're just a newb so you don't understand the forum dynamics yet." Forum dynamics?

Allow me to retort. I've already said that it's possible that you're a lurker. And you still might be. Or maybe you're just some dude that hasn't been back in forever and yet still thinks he knows enough about the situation to comment.

I usually don't. But on occasion I do. And the circumstances are as I've outlined already. When somebody who hasn't been around long enough to be able to comment on the situation thinks that they do have the knowledge required to comment. For instance, I recently harangued a 'newb' for bitching about the forum's downtime in what I took as an extremely insulting manner. He spoke of how shitty these forums are and he was leaving.

It's comments like that lead to most newb-calling.

Why do you like to think that? Does it make the world more meaningful for you in some way?

    Yes.

    Yes.

Making coments like those are one thing, but Darkman was doing something completely different - just asking what the deal was.

It has nothing to do with the world being more or less meaningful, but more to do with the intelligent discussion that you believe to be the focus of these forums. I'm not sure what other real life intellectual forums you've participated in, but I assure you - calling someone a "newb", "noob", or other such equivalent names is a sure fire way to remove yourself from have any hope of offering respected intellectual commentary.

    Invert, what does this:

    have to do with this:
I have had no problems like he has apparently encountered since sciforums came back up a few days ago. Have you? Two totally different things, imo, though I guess they could be related. You are one of the resident geniuses, so why don't you just post a short blerb about why this might be happening to him. If you don't know, fine. If you just don't want to, also fine.
