They are pretty popular in the US. They have about a million now and I think people are starting to get sick of them.

We sell CARE bracelets at Waldenbooks. It's a good plus sell, but kind of obnoxious. Kids are just buying the plain ones now.

Getting sick of them? What? Why? Surely not, afterall they just raise awareness... *yawn*
...of what a wonderful, caring and charitable person the wearer wants everyone nearby to Think s/he is.

I've never seen or heard of these "wristbands" could you explain the concept to me? Is it just a wristband which perhaps is meant to represent awareness of some issue?

I must apologies for my ignorance, but I live in Phoenix Arizona which, despite being the 6th largest country in the nation, is actually just an overgrown hick-town full of people who see campaigns for awareness of social issues as a personal attack against them, and the American way of life.

Like the yellow LiveStrong wristband. It's really just like an oversized rubberband. And you...well you wear it.

I think the meaning for these wristbands are good, but people are starting to wear them because everyone else has them, and they want to be cool. I was going to get one, but then it just became a fashion trend..

Personally, I despise them, for many and various reasons.

Charity. So some fashion victim gave money to a charity once and displays that fact ad nauseum. Big deal, some people give regularly, and aren't vulgar about it.

Awareness #1. Fashion victims may have just discovered some issue, but the rest of us who watch the news more, and MTV less, probably already knew.

Awareness #2 One colour 'Awareness' band was made in a factory in China that utilised child labour. Great, prop up a exploitation ring with 'awareness'.

Non-charity/awareness. Scumfucking companies are now selling fashion versions and keep the cash, and fashion victims still buy them. Unfuckingbelievable.

They are bits of rubber, and look stupid.

Got two purple ones that say "HOPE". Don't wear them, though. I save them to use occasionally as a sort of lucky charm. One on each wrist. For final exams and such, y'know? Wearing it all the time makes it lose its potency as a lucky charm. It's similar with the pentacle that "Wiccans" like to plaster all over the place. The pentacle was originally meant to be an amulet or a symbol of protection, and its power was supposed to be conserved by concealing it, or at the very least, by not shoving in everyone's face.

I see all of your points, though. I suppose they can be over-abused so that they become cheap advertisements of "I gave money".

I just think wearing such things all the time numbs you to the reason why you're wearing them. I don't have all this hatred toward wristband nerds like all of you seem to be nursing right now.

Yeah, that's the yellow one, it says LiveSTRONG. It was the first and the one that started this whole trend.

Hmm. I see people walking around with those different colored gay plastic wristbands. Not sure what they are. I know Brad Pitt and the rediculous One Capaign blatantly capitalized on this whole played out trend as if donations were something new.

It was played out when it started, and it continues to be played out.

I feel very depressed that a trend can come, become popular, and start to get really old and tacky without my noticing it a single time 'till people start bitching about it here :/ Phoenix sucks.

there are camo ones that say "support our troops" and basically any other lame thing you can support has its own ripoff version of.... I think armstong's is the first, but I am not sure. I don' really care.

    Armstrong's was the first.

I had one way back when they first appeared, but then it broke about 3 months ago (so much for living strong). It sounds stupid, but now it feels like if I buy another, then I'm just following the sheep instead of supporting a charity.

I'll donate to the Livestrong Foundation, but I doubt I'll be buying a wristband to show it off anymore.

Right. OK so it was started by the Livestrong foundation, and all the other idiots strated biting the trend. It's great to support the Livestrong, and wear a wrist band. But now that all the other rediculous campaigns are capitalizing off of the trend, and turning the situiation into an abomination.

You'd have to be a real demented loser to support these liches, and wear their bloated abominable gay wristbands. I'd have respect for anybody wearing the original live strong yellow band. Other than that, get a life.
