    Hi,
Can anyone tell me of any programs for Linux that can create .swf files for web animation? I've discovered spalah Flash, but I haven't tried it out yet. Also, I'm not sure if it has an Actionscript editor (maybe all .swf creators use actionscript for all I know - excuse my relative ignorance, I'm a newbie).

I get the impression that a rival to Macromedia's Flash is one of the things that is missing for Linux, but I'd love to proven wrong. So, any animation programs out there for Linux that use Actionscript?

    Any help?

I see no shame in digging up year-old threads, so - now that I'm slightly more knowledgeable on this topic (only slightly mind you) - allow me to share the little I've learnt ....

Flash ( no GUIs I'm afraid):

SSWF - there are links to example on that page
Ming - Here are some old examples and new examples. Ming can be used with PHP, Perl, Python Ruby and C++.

    ---------------------

    Non-Flash:

Blender - quite amazing in my view! I was open-mouthed in awe when I first discovered that such a 'killer application' was available under the GPL, but I guess a lot of you will be familiar with it already. I've never actually used it myself, but the sample movies are very impressive!

I suspect there are considerably more non-flash animation packages available for Linux, but it's not something I'm particularly interested (at the moment anyway), so I haven't researched it.
