WI: Prussia wasn't able to unify Germany, but remained as a potent force in Europe?
how would this affect us today?
what would the world be live with no "germany" to vilify in WW1 & 2. would there even be a WW1 or 2?

    debate to consequences.

Hmm, first consequences that come to my mind: I would still live in Prussia.

But why would the existence of Prussia mean no war? I mean, they had a pretty big army and resources, they could have easily started a war on their own, and sadly, some of their kings were pretty retarded, so I would not put a full scale war beyond them.

Anyway, I suppose without the world wars, Germany might have a much stronger economy and more resources. Also, our reputation would not be so damaged, which might have opened more possibilities in the past. Furthermore, Germans would have a much better image of themselves.

Plus, the prussian flag looked cooler than our black, red and gold one does. But that would be a minor factor.

Oh, and those pesky discussions about the meaning of swastikas would finally cease.

    I would live in Prussia.

Hmm....would there be a WW1? Possibly, although not as we know it. Prussia could have triggered something though a belligerant pursuit of territory. But WW1 occured in part because of the obligations brought by the unstable and highly complex alliances between the European states. Change Germany, and you'd have changed all that. Might the teetering Habsburgs been more amenable to compromise without Germany as it was then? Possibly.

I hope that makes sense, I'm on my second tequila sunrise.

    of course.
they had been since the late 1680s, when they were still Brandenburg. How do you think the Margrave of Brandenburg was able to convice the Holy Roman Emperor into making him King?
and when Frederick the Great was in power....oooh!
Prussia drilled thier infantry troops to a level of perfection never before dreamed of in Europe, at least until Napoleon.

but then again if I am not mistaken, wasnt Prussia that sought to unify and make the greater German Empire. That is why Bismarck went to war with France so that he can rally all of Germany into one.

and on a lighter note, It just makes me laugh how much Frederick The Great loved tall soldiers. Dont grow too tall or the army will come take you before conscription haha

It was Fritz's dad- who was completely loopy- who collected tall guardsmen.

After WWI there was a strong monarchist and independence movement in Bavaria. It's been suggested that one purpose of hitler's beer-hall putsch in 1923 may have been to help ensure German unity. Not much goo being the Man of destiny whan the nation you're destined to lead has fallen to bits.

Fritz's Prussian army also had a height requirement, especially with the Grenadiers.

Frederick William I, King in Prussia, father of FRederick the Great...he was an abusive tyrant. He beat his son in public, for fuck's sake, in the middle of Berlin's mainstreet.

It wasn't until the 1860s, that Prussia wanted to unify germany under thier banner. Before that, they were just concerned with making Prussia the most powerful german state. After the 1866 war against Austria, it was definently within thier grasp.
The 1870-71 Franco-Prussian War solidified it.
William I was a very good man, a very good King-Emperor. Too bad his grandson, Bill the second had to fuck it up.
