They really have not liked each-other for a long time and my friend is afraid that because of this recent controversy China is ready to attack Japan. Anti country rallies are not usually good. China already told Taiwan what if they want to become independent away from China, China will invade them. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4429809.stm Discuss.

China does anything to an economically important nation and they will burn. The last thing the US needs is for a major trade partner like Japan or Taiwan to fall. We would step in and use whatever force is necessary.

Things would probably stop at trade sanctions and that would probably be enough. This is all just a powerplay by China's communist regiem to minimize foreign economic influence on their soil.

The leaders China wish to pursue any distraction away from the harsh control that central government has over its people. The success of the Chinese government and its ability to keep in control is based on how long they can keep the economy growing.

I would begin to fear China if a revolution is growing near, caused by an economic collapse or slowdown. At the moment, however, the Chinese government would not be foolish enough to ruin a relationship with their three largest trading partners, the United States, Japan, and Taiwan. The money for a war would quickly dry up, and an invasion would be impossible.

Just another distraction for its people, who will begin to clamor for more rights....

That is what I am afraid of I don't want us getting in on some other countries shit again. Oh you are having a CIVIL war don't worry the US is on it's way... I understand we would lose trade with anotehr country but you know what instead of going in let us leave them alone and open our trade with Cuba back up.

The world's nations should adopt a Prime Directive policy and not interfere with the affairs of other nations militarily. If you take this example with Japan and China, let's say Japan was invaded by China, no outsiide nation could interfere with military force. They could choose to not trade with the Chinese if they opposed the action, maybe even stand in as a mediator in peace talks if it were requested but not use force. I also have a question about a previous post that suggested trade with Cuba. Besides cigars, what does Cuba have to trade?

Yeah I guess that sounds kinda good. If one needs to be refreshed on Chinese Japanese history, see the movie The Last Emperor. It's quite good.

Who said they did? They have a horrible history yes, but that does not make the movie bad. It shows all that and is a very good film.

I fear China invading Taiwan and me getting drafted in a World War.

Dried up economies didn't prevent a second World War, in fact, that's what's credited with starting it.

If China goes into Taiwan, we would go after China, and then the whole world picks sides. I have a feeling most of the world would go with the US, and not China. And wouldn't we want a war with China, so all the US debt they own goes poof?

Yeah that would really suck, I am really hoping they don't reinstate the draft.

I really hope that China stays to itself rather than start invading other countries because I believe that if WW3 occurs I think it will start with China. You know that once China invades Taiwan/Japan whoever the US will get in the thick of things followed closely by the UK. Then the Russians would get involved, my guess is with China because they'd be afraid of a Chinese invasion if the US lost. India might get involved and then Pakistan opposes whatever side India is on. Everybody else would chose a side but probably not be that big a factor. I am Historian and one of my favorite subjects are the world wars but I wouldn't want to live in one. I think it's a bit to early to really speculate as to if this is the event that would lead to the war if it were to occur. I truly hope it doesn't though.

My feelings are that since the Tiananmen Square incident, the Chinese have directed their history books to make the Japanese look really really bad.

I mean come on, who killed more Chinese (1) Japanese solders (2) Chairman Mao’s policies?

    - Yet, I know plenty of Chinese that think Chairman Mao is a hero.
    - I know plenty of Chinese that think China rushing to become a Democracy is a horrible thing.
    - A friend of mine from Nanjing ALWAYS makes a point of asking any Japanese I introduce them to if they know about the Nanjing massacre. And then insists on educating them.
    - Did you see the football match? They had to escort the Japanese players from the stadium. I can just imagine what the Olympics will be like?

Anyway, this directs the Chinese peoples pent up frustrations at someone (anyone) other than the government. It’s a great lesson on why Dictatorships sucks and why, so long as China remains dictatorial, they’ll never realize their potential.

The Japanese were wrong to invade and kill Chinese, but from the Japanese point of view they were ultimately going to re-educate Chinese to become civilized – which would in the long run help out the Chinese/Asians. Sort of bring them up to the level of the Europeans, which was where the Japanese felt they were at (you know canbalism and marrying 15 wives wasn't that uncommon in Western China at the turn of the century - and that's info from a Chinese friend). I think the Chinese like to use the same sort of excuse to justify their control of Tibet. Help out them poor backwards Tibetans.

They seem to miss the irony.

    Likewise Taiwan.

China has not had control over Taiwan for so long. But they claim it like they’ve lived there for millennia. That’s not the case. Chinese only really began moving there 4 centuries ago. And that says nothing about the indigenous Taiwanese who lived there for thousands of years before the Chinese migrated there. And for about half of those 4 hundred years Taiwan was controlled by the Japanese.

Should Australia be forced to become a part of England? Does that make sense? It’s the same as Taiwan being forced to be part of China.

Anyway, all of this is to keep the peoples eyes off the shitty used-to-be-communist Chinese government and on ANYTHING else. China is prosperous because the people work for dirt and as long as they work for dirt the rich nations will pour money into the country. So actually China wants foreign investment. It’s what’s keeping the country moving forward. But eventually it has to come to an end.

As is ALWAYS the case, in about ANY country, a few people get rich and most others get poor, and eventually there’s a revolution.

China is going to have another revolution, the question is when, and what does that mean for us? War?

Americans killing one another over ideas of States rights in a civil war is a bit different than some autocrat starving 30 million people to death with his Great Leap Backward.

In China, during Mao's crazy Great Leap Forward, (China's farmers were collectivized en masse) an estimated 30 million or more people starved to death. Another two million are said to have died in Mao's Cultural Revolution. Not to mention 2 million `class enemies' were shot when the communists took power then another million Tibetans and Turkestani Muslims were `liquidated.' from 1950-1975.

So 0.2 million killed by Japanese invaders in Nanjing.
    OR
35 million killed by Mao’s insane ideas?

Anyway, that’s not my point. My point is that the Japanese are made to look especially bad because it takes the pressure off the crap government, when in actuality, you’d find that government has the legacy of about 200 times more dead Chinese.

Anywya, a better similarity would be: “Oh look Osama Bin Saddam” as Bush and Co crate off the biggest $$ scam in History! They’re rolling in it down there!!

Lincoln was little more than a despot. I have no idea why anyone would hold him in high esteme. He was a rotter and a hypocrit. As for any future conflict with China it would have to be over the money the US could have with the invaded country because they certainly didn't care when Tibet was taken over but if they lost money in Taiwan or Japan that would be something so fight for in thier eyes.

I concur Pokemon is quite possibly the most annoying cartoon in existence. All those idiotic fuzzy things wandering around making endless racket while thier owners are whining. The oil thing isn't that good either.

This seems to justify what Japan did in the 1930s and 1940s... eliminating an inevitable enemy.
