Here in GB (or at least this small area of GB) its a close thing between MSN IM and AIM. I know only 1 person with ICQ and he only got it because he wanted to fill up his trillian bar. My ICQ account has stopped working.

I roll my eyes at Brits, pardon. Yes, it's a bias statement; but I've seen ICQ being popular in Germany and Latvia.

ICQ is almost totally dead, because it's obsolete. I know a lot of brits who use Yahoo IM

 

That's only half true. The rumors about a Google browser were due to Google being in talks with Mozilla. But what happened is they hired their lead Firefox developer, Ben Goodgers, who spends half his time working on Firefox, and the rest on side projects at Google. He's pretty much doing the same thing, but now is being paid by Google rather than by Mozilla. So essentially Google now has a hand in developing Firefox.

Uh... why? I hope you don't use IE... At least use Opera.

 

Konqueror isn't all that bad too. I'm using Firefox though.

 

Go find a client called GAIM. Does whatever Trillian does, but performs better and is free.

If you've got people using all these different IM services, then just register with all of them. No problem.

 

I tried it, it doesn't connect. Doesn't look as good as trillian. Trillian is free you know.

 

I like Trillian better too, but there is no Trillian on Linux.

 

AIM is effective,quick and easy...Although i have all of them

 

I remember reading an article about google hiring programmers that were also involved in writing IE.

By the way, for Linux you can download other messaging clients that support msn, AIM and ICQ... I use GAIM.

 

I tried IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox but I like Firefox best.

 

And I don't know anyone who uses yahoo im.

What? I've always used Yahoo IM network (Trillian, Ymessenger, Gaim or Kopete).

 

Alpha, I use an IE based browser called Maxthon (formerly MyIE2). No less secure than Firefox, and still has all the menus and stuff that I'm used to with IE. I'm like an alzheimers patient with Firefox. Every once in a while I decide to try it out because everyone says how great it is, forgetting how much I disliked it before. I always end up uninstalling it. It's slooooooooow, doesn't load some pages right, and doesn't have all the menus and everything that I'm used to in IE. BAH to Firefox!

 

Only the philistines say bah to Firefox.

Firefox has always ruled and will rule for a long time.

Google is actually a highly profitable company and they have been for a long time, as was seen when they went public. They have no reason to start charging for the services they currently offer for free. And, as some anecdotal evidence against Google turning "Microsoft-ish", the company was founded by guys who were and are part of the very demographic that is "anti-Microsoft/anti-establishment" the only problem arises with it going public and being forced to comply with shareholders who don't have the same views (but then, like I said, Google is very profitable so shareholders have little to complain about).

Google has no more a hand in Mozilla development than Netscape and AOL had/have (and actually less).
