i like it. seeing the original photo would be helpful. btw - thanks for the http://www.cgnetworks.com link. jesus, just when i think im a half decent artist i look at a site like that and remember how high the bar is. the gallery there rivals (or betters) any concept art ive seen from 100 million dollar movies, beautiful stuff.
Here's one of mine. Dieter Skulsplitter, an incvincible son of Odin, Chief of the Norse gods, and the mortal queen of Denmark in 980. http://sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4095&stc=1
i made him on the Sims 2, had nothing else that looked "viking" How does he look like a hillbilly? He's a Viking. where do you get "hillbilly" from "viking" but they did have pants in the 900s, and that was the closest to "900s" clothing in that game.
Sure, too bad its copyrighted, i could've used it as a portfolio piece http://www.sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4104&stc=1 Couldn't have said it better myself. Most of those guys there are working pros....most readers in there are working on heavy projects.
Thanks. An exercise in B&W...the subject matter wasn't limited to anything. I just fell in love with the photograph.
Seeing stuff like that makes me want to go back to art school again... and maybe get good this time Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! What did you say it was? Oh this? "Midway upon the journey of our life I found myself within a forest dark, For the straightforward pathway had been lost." ok then, Do I Dare?> sorry for the bigass file if you dont like big Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Sorry, Bwana... I happen to know that the "invincible son of Odin" is a fat drunken ex-paratrooper from Northern England... heeheeheeheeheeheehee...
??? Like I said, killjoy... I made him on The Sims 2. Literally, that clothing is the closest thing to a Viking tunic and leather cuirass. Literally, the only thing close... But what about the character in general? Pretty good, ugly, kickass, or realistic? Or other?
Hapsburg, He looks like a hillbilly; the jeans, the facial hair, the retro denim, the fur rough. It's midwestern bar. How do I get hillbilly from viking? Because I see a hillbilly there, not a viking. It's like you showing me a picture of a rabbit and telling me it's a wolf. When I say it looks like a wolf, it's because it's a wolf, not because you calling a wolf a rabbit actually makes it a rabbit. What do I think of it? If the son of Odin likes beer, big tits, country music and American trucks, then you definitely have your man.
I told you, there was nothing closer to a viking's pantaloons, and a fur cuirass. Literally, nothing else closer. Sims 2 expak: university has stuff closer, but i havent played the Skulsplitters in a long time. The head looks like a viking though. Blonde hair, Blue eyes, Big beard. The three B's of Viking appearance. Besides, its supposed to be Dieter after he returns amidst the German Civil War of 2322 (dont ask, long fic)
I did make hillbilly's though, in that game. They wear denim jackets and suspenders. And messy tanktops. I called them the "Hickum" family. ehehehehehhahhaahhahahahha!!
sorry... inside joke. Go here... ask for "Von Richter" The Odin Zone a site which contains info on the clothing of the age: An Archaeological Guide to Viking Men's Clothing Sems like the "jeans" might be closer to true than has been presumed... "Iconographic evidence in such forms as the Gotlandic picture stones and the Oseberg tapestry suggests that the Vikings wore at least two types of leg coverings: a wide, knee-length, baggy type and a narrow, full-length, more fitted type" The fellow you fashioned looks as though he could be of almost any epoch. A Norse chieftain taking his ease by the fireside with a mug of grog... A friendly stranger at the Woodstock festival... A contemplative philosophical guru just emerging from a mass-meditation ritual... A steely-eyed mercenary commander from some far-flung future with a flair for dressing in some fancifully contrived "retro" style... He's cool... I'm just a sarcastic bastard. *laughs* ah, well... i have other stuff from the Sims 2. I made a lot of charactes. including Nuke, Patch, Hacker, and Wrench... I'll post this one of 'em...its really cool. its a group photo that i had on a white background. i copy-pasted it onto a desert backdrop. looks like Gulf War scenery...after all, they did fight in the Gulf War in the story. here ya go: http://sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4109&stc=1
Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Hi! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! My own hand may be lousy, but I have a great friend who happens to be an artist. Please see her work if you wish. I've put some of it in my gallery. http://ambereye.piparmetra.net/categories.php?cat_id=19 If you wish to ask her some questions directly, here is an e-mail address -> (-skangale-)at(-piparmetra.net-) (I've yet not fully finished her website, there are some errors in the english version of it)
Don't know why I've never uploaded the couple of pictures that I have of mine scanned. I gave these to a friend of mine years ago (in fact, I had to give up almost all of my art and art materials at the time and have gotten virtually none of them back. Sucks really.) and he scanned it for me over a year ago. He didn't scan it well though. These first two are the same picture (duh) and were drawn one night when I "couldn't sleep". <a href="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/4536/blacksun13iu.jpg"><img src="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/4536/blacksun13iu.jpg" border="0" width="600" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a> <a href="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/9610/blacksun26mm.jpg"><img src="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/9610/blacksun26mm.jpg" border="0" width="600" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a> They're a few years old and nicotine stained and a bit blurred from never being treated for permanency. I think I could have done better on certain aspects of the drawing (especially problematic is that there is no sense of perspective. Distant objects actually appear darker than near objects), but on the whole I think it's acceptable. This next is a copy of an old Wizard magazine cover. And, it has problems as well. But, again, so-so. In my opinion. <a href="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/7617/wizard8lw.jpg"><img src="http://img235.echo.cx/img235/7617/wizard8lw.jpg" border="0" width="600" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a> I wish I had this picture I copied of Vic Rattlehead (Megadeth's mascot) standing on top of a pile of skulls carrying the globe on his shoulders. That was sweet. I copied more than created. The first picture is one of the few pictures that was actually mine.
You got the skills, to pay the bills Invert. Why didn't you ever pursue art school? I mean I understand if you like money then you wouldn't want to but you never struck me as the money hungry type of guy.
