As far as pilsen goes, nothing better than Czech Budvar (or maybe it was the good company, and the murmur of the Moldava). Otherwise, German Weissbier (Erdinger, Franziskaner). Spain's Voll Damm isn't too shabby, either.
I just don't like lager, which is what most of my fellow Americans mean by "beer." Tastes like mouse pee. I like a brew with flavor, one that doesn't need to be refrigerated to be refreshing. Stout, dark beer, porter, stuff like that. There are a lot of microbreweries here in northern California that make good stouts. Australia puts out some fine hairy brews too. Guiness -- I don't know, it's just too refined, no bite. Gimme a Downtown Brown or a Sierra Nevada.
I like the dark mexican beers, like Indio or Dos Equis. Indio has that great dark taste without the bite. Very smooth.
Look out for some extraordinary US microbrews- Sierra Nevada brewery especially. By and large an american beer will probably be very good if you've never heard of it. The more they spend on advertising the less they spend on ingredients and production.
he has a point. but, then again, we're so fucking stupid and drunk, we americans probably can't spell "beer" most of the time... sadly. but, my dad makes some pretty good beer.
Snap! If you come across it drink Nigerian Guinness. the old bottled Guinness which fermented in the bottle was very good, so they got rid of it. The Australian brewery to look for is Coopers which does bottle-fermented sparkling ale and stout. A general rule with breweries is that the bigger the brewery the less interesting the beer. They try to make beers which no-one will dislike, not beers that some people will like- and a lot of others won't.
My father used to make beer, I prefer German Weissbier and Czech Budvar. there is a good russian beer : Zoloto . but I have'nt seen it in years.
It is standard fare at Chinese restaurants in the US. I like it pretty well in that context, but would not seek it out as an everyday beer. :m: Peace.
@ Oscar - Whoa, I've never seen that before (the can, not the brand). It sort of looks like a can of motor oil or WD40.
Full Sail, Rogue, Deschutes, (Oregon microbrews) and that beer from El Salvador named after a sea turtle.
Ice House for you un-Americans, thick and tastey, heavier if brought to lip at room temp, draft sucks, bottles are the only way, 12oz glass long neck.. Grand Flavour with depth in giving head.... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
