I have been a fan of sci fi all my life but have never studied it as such. Recently I have noticed as most of your guys have also I bet that the movies are taking on more and more characteristics of video games. In that the maze effect and tunnels and hall ways seem to dominate the action. The film Alien vs Predator was a good example of video game contruct. Do you think this is a good trend or what?
It first started with the adaptation of comic book characters and kept progressing as time went by. It would seem that if anything is done well it can be copied. Look at all of the great SF books that have been copied but how few turned out really great when the movie came out. Again as long as it's done well then it stands a chance of making it to the movies but if there's any crap involved I'd say it won't fly.
With almost any hit movie, there's bound to be a video game for it. But lately, it HAS been like the games became movies. I guess it all depends on what you like. I think it is an attempt to hold onto gamers. I mean, play MGS3, halo, or just about any other game out there today and you will find a movie grade plot in it. so the question is: why the hell would I watch a movie when I can play a movie? so the movie makers answer is "here, watch a video game if you are going to play a movie" kind of a circular thing.

Maybe it's just me, but i find it an interesting development. years ago films were more often than not showed vast spaces, open skies, forests and mountains etc etc, with the indoors parts focused on the actors. now adays, it is more about the labyrinths [you may recall the film with David Bowie in it Labyrinth I think it was called], the mazes the corridoors and hall ways, trap doors, invisible windows and exit points etc . Glorified Mario Bros....in format. I happen to like it BTW and find it an interesting development. Ideas in the movie industry are thinning fast. And if producers and studios do not meet their quota of film making, then it will horribly disturb the US economy. Californias economy is pretty much solely reliant on the movie industry. How fucken sad.
Actually it touches upon another side issue what is the future of film and music? In the next hundred years or so? Are we reaching the end of our creativity?
