I've been searching the web without luck for a coding community similar to sciforums in structure.

i.e. somewhere you can talk about various different languages (obscure ones as well) and all things code, everything from taking your first steps with a new languate to discussing memmory handling and low level debugging.

So my question is, does anyone know of any such communities? active ones?

Vodoo Child pretty much got it covered. I recently hooked up with a few local coding gurus. I'm starting to get paid quite a bit for my work. I code for fun too. If you hook up with some local people, you usually get together in a basement with your laptops, work out the bugs and problems in the programs and then play the guitar and get stoned. I'm working my way up the reputation line online, but it's mostly in more underground communities that are active, but you usually need to be referred.

I sometimes go to codingforums.com - useful if you have questions about a particular problem with a specific language.
