I'm a new user. I am trying to learn how to hack, so if anyone has any info...send it to me.

Why would WE tell YOU how to hack? How do I know if you might hack into my computer?

First of all, that's a ridiculous answer.

Second, try searching the net for something like, i don't know, hacker or cracker or hacking scripts. You see, they have this thing called Google...

First, you'll need some kind of program to graphically show telephone calls being bounced between cities...

    First, read these two..philosophical.. essays:
    http://www.paulgraham.com/gba.html
    http://www.paulgraham.com/hp.html

Then become familiar with *nix and a few useful languages. I'm assuming you haven't..

Then, learn how to use irc and talk to people with experience. Be respectful, and if they like your curiousity you might get some secrets.

Basically, hacking is all about figuring out how a system works and how to bypass security, which is much more difficult today than it was in say..the 80's. Back then it was like everybody leaving their front doors open. There wasn't any real security. But it was like a black magic to the uninitiated. If you want to hack nowadays, and I mean really hack, you need to be a security expert or somebody with too much time that really needs to get laid. Otherwise, you're a script kiddie. Worse than being a hobo.

I've been playing with computers for years and can't even claim to be a real hacker yet...

no-one can calim to be a hacker, they must do something great enough that other will grant them rite of passage, such as put a soviet flag across the FBI homepage

The problem is that all kids wants to be a 'hacker', instead of wanting to know about computers.

Do NOT use irc. It is a complete waste of time, rather read, read and read, than apply, apply and apply (for practical things).

go on to gnutella and find a manual on it,
thanks to those manuals i know how to use almost every soviet handheld weapon, american stuff is harder to get, but their pathetic sniper training manuals are widely available

It's harder to get your hands on weapons than on manuals.

It was sweet time when my father worked in the Ministry of Defence,
I got to shoot with a very wide arsenal: soviet and european mostly.

It can be. But where do you think the pro's learn what to read and where to start? You learn best by hanging around people who can save your time and energy.

My irc buddies have helped me enormously.

One can easily keep hanging in irc all the time without actually learning much.
It would be better to join a forum I believe.

Apologies. Apparently I didn't have any sense of humour yesterday.

    Cheers.

I'm going to close this thread because of the potential legal trough that the pursuit of hacking can cause.

Understand that "Hacking" really is just about taking someone elses program, reversing it (getting the Sourcecode) and altering it a little to be personalised. ("Hacking")

"Crackers" are those that bust codes (deal with encryption etc), The reason the terming "Hacker" gets wrongly interpretted is because of the programming of "Backdoors/Trojans" or even viruses. However they are truly termed now aday's as "Script-Kiddies" since they don't start with a programmed source and alter it usually, they usually script their own thing (With their own flaws/exploits from sloppy coding).

If you want to truly "Hack", then just learn how to be a good programmer. That way you have a "Legal" pursuit that will keep you from going down the wrong road. You should also note that during the cold war "Spies" could wind up dead, "Script-Kiddies" tend to forget that.
