As in the Douglas Adams book where elite physics professors killed a student who had done the greatest discovery of that time because they had finally realised that nobody likes smartasrses.

I don't know why everyone thinks I said they are banned for having a low iq, all I was saying was that their iq would be on display next to their name for every one to see every time the posted something. This is not the first time I have said this in the post either, please take the time to read it, it is not that hard.

So to answer your question no you would not be banned.

Yeah it would kind of defeat the purpose to ban the people with low IQs.

    Paranoia, coupled with unexpected realism.

I don't think putting the IQ next to one's handle would do any good.
It would result in IQ-whining, it would seriously reduce the amount of useful discussion. I speak of experience, any of you who are/were a member of HighIQ societies should agree on that.

Also, who is going to make an IQ test? And how where you intending to norm it properly?

We were going to rig it so the good guys (i.e. people who agree with us) get a large one...

wouldn't it take more time voting on everyones ranking than it would doing an iq test, i mean if your time is so valuable

in my persoanl opinion this is a stupid idea as IQ tests are not accurate and intelligence is a human charcteristic that can't be quanitively measured or defined, and one's reactions to anothers ideas/posts should have no correlation to the fist person's IQ. My IQ increases every few years by about a few points. when i was in grade one ,my IQ was aroudn 130 and now its well in excess of 160. So these things can change as IQ tests can't be seriously accurate...

That is a genius website red, "under construction" with a flashing light or whatever. Now, why did you want me to go there?
    Great example. IQ=160, common sense=???.

Continuing your hyperbole, everyone on the planet thinks they are smart.
JR, here are some issues to ponder concerning your suggestion. I shall call them the 3Ms: mechanism, motivation, message.
    Mechanism:
To obtain a realistic IQ measurement requires a lengthy test under controlled conditions.
Item 1: A quality test would have to be purchased from a testing company. Given that it would be freely accessible by anyone they are going to charge an arm and a leg for it. Who is going to pay?
Item 2: Even if you run a simpler test of the type to be found free on the inter-net that still creates set up issues for the site owner.
Item 3: The simple tests still take significant time to complete, which will be off-putting to some.

    Motivation:
What are we actually gaining from this? Yes it would be of passing interest, in the same way that it interesting to know where someone lives, what sex they are, how old they are, etc. But it is arguably one of the less interesting factors.
So, I ask again, what useful data does it bring to the forum.

    Message:
This sends a very strong message to potential visitors that this is an elitist forum of Mensa like geeks. (Thouhg a quick scan of a typical thread would disabuse them of this notion.)
If you know you have a low IQ, but are keen to learn, you are likely to be put off by this requirement to publicly display your allegedly low intellect. Result: fewer posters.

Which is a long winded way of agreeing with SpuriousMonkey. Maybe we aren't falling over ourselves to vote yes because there are too many reasons against it.
For the record I am addicted to IQ tests. The free ones on the net generally give me scores in the high 160s. Properly conducted ones, or serious ones in reputable books, deliver a figure in the high 140s or low 150s. But I fail to see what that has to do with anything. I can still spout as much drivel as the guy, or gal, with an IQ of 95. It's just that I may be more adept at wriggling free when someone calls me on it!

Let the idea slide into well deserved oblivion, but thanks for generating some interesting thoughts.

If anyone is keen to display their IQ they can put it under their custome user title.

    end of discussion.

Yeah, but the whole reason I was interested was specifically so the people who didn't want to display their IQs had them displayed against their will.
The idea of that turns me on.
I'm kind of a pervert when it comes to IQs, and nudity too for that matter.
