After years of a self-styled Hindo-shamanistic Buddhist lifestyle, I have a question. What motivates people to change their religion, or in the case of the non-religious, to join one?

I know in some cases, there is a mixed marriage involved and one partner decides to convert to the other one's faith, but for a lot of people there are other factors involved. Anybody out there who has converted from one religion to another, been non-religious and decided to join a religion, been religious and decided to quit their religion? And if so, why?

    Peace.

The old way didn't work and the new way did.

The values of people change, but religions are often thousands of years old and sometimes quite rigid, if they don´t bend along the change with the values, person might change religion to suit better with the new values. Perhaps.

I have noticed that often when people change, covert to new ideology or religion, they often think that they have found the truth and that the old values were wrong and that now the person has found the ultimate truth (has happened to me in several cases), but humans do not often stop, but they evolve and go forward and values, opinions and even religions can change many times in one lifetime.
