Well: sciforums.com exosci.com styleforums.com (don't understand that one) philforums.com 66.39.35.200 (ok, so not really a site) xlife.org www.aufora.org
exosci.com and aufora.org are the only two on the list that go directly to sciforums.com. styleforums.com and that weird number are their own domain name, but they appear as a parallel dimension of sciforums.com. philforums.com goes to philoforums.com which is another parallel dimension just like styleforums and that weird number. xlife.org goes to a completely different place that is not here, yet for some reason is on the list. What does it all mean? With the exception of xlife.org, they are all the same as sciforums. Huh?
They all goto 'that weird number'. When you type a name into your browser, your computer goes and looks up the IP address (that wierd number) and then 'dials' the number. It's as if you and your roomate were both listed in the phone book. Calling either one sends you to the same place. Xlife is on the list because Porfy owns it... and it's forums are here (or atleast were).
coolskill how was style a wierd parrellel? YOU were listed in the members of it and all my posts were there
Because styleforums and philoforums as well as the IP address have their own domain name. Then you have to log in it's like a parallel version. exosci and aufora would load as if you typed in sciforums. xlife is a completely different site.
exosci and aufora are basically call forwarding.... it redirects you to the right site. You need to log onto style and philo because your cookies will only be sent to a site called sciforums. Your computer can't tell if it's really the same site, or a copy cat site on the same server. Xlife is for the Mac software found here: http://www.sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72
Say I own www.domainA.com and www.domainB.com. I have a host for www.domainA.com. I added www.domainB.com to the account using the Addon Domain feature in my hostcontrolpanel for www.domainA.com. I placed the index.htm page for www.domainB.com into a subfolder of www.domainA.com. Therefore, when a person types in www.domainB.com into the browser, the page that loads will be www.domainA.com/domainB/index.htm. How do I make it so that when a person types in www.domain2.com, it will appear as www.domain2.com when the page loads even though it points to www.domain1.com/domain2/index.htm. Thanks!
Have your provider forward both addresses to the same directory. It's different depending on who's services you use... but just send them an email asking for multiple domain names. Your only problem will be if you have a site that uses cookies (just about anything interactive). You'll have a seperate login for the two sites...
I recommend http://www.talkphilosophy.org/ to anyone looking for philosophy chat, possibly in addition to sites already mentioned here. Good place. :m:
