I had for some reason come up with a thought that triggered me to do a little search on the internet. The thought was... "Are there any female philosophers?" It was easy to guess that there wouldn't be many, especially of the classical greek period, because It's only been within the last 100 years that Men have stepped down from a dominant role where they selected that women could not participate in such things as education and debate, as they (..this is going by the old fashioned viewing..) should be at home looking after the children and the household (..don't worry not my personal view..). I search through the net and couldn't find any written material from Greek women, of course that was understood as they had no voting writes and only a few would participate in anything other than what would seem womenly. I did find mention though that Pythagorus was actually a Feminist, and stood up for how things should change for females, but there was a corresponding note that mentioned that he had a sister. There was also a mention that he studied under the Priestess of Delphi Themistoclea who was said to sometimes speak of prophecies sent by the gods. She is one of the mentioned Philosophers of that time, since she had the ability to present her thoughts to a populous. There is very little information about her and those that too would visit there, such as Pythagorus's Sister and daughters. I thought for the lack of information contained about Female Philosophers to create a thread devoted to any that might have existed and still do exist. Feel free to add any information you have too.
