What is arguably one of the nets most popular torrent sources has closed. This happened sometime during today (19th December 2004) and they have left the following statement

I personally think it's a damned shame as they had some pretty fine downloads there. It was my main source of Stargate and Battlestar Galactica episodes (which I cannot watch as Eastenders is on at the same time...women eh). I for one will miss it.

meh, I barely ever use it.

newsgroups, soulseek and dc++ work well if I'm ever looking for something.

    Added to Avatars comment:
Especially if the user has AOL as their internet connect.

Simply Bit-torrent sites like suprnova had only been in service on the technicality that they weren't actually serving the files, however with increases in legal tension from those corporate money grabbers, it would only be time until they have to close down or face legal prosecution.

Such sites weren't so bad for those hard to find television movies or series that had disappeared into obscurity, however what really got up the nose of the MPAA is probably the films getting out on pirate before they've even hit the cinema.

There are other sites, but I shant mention them since I don't know of them.

p.s. suprnova isn't the only Torrent site that has closed. There are at least 4 more.

DC++ is far superior for downloading Anime. As far as movies and TV episodes I believe there are a few IRC channels on EFnet that host trackers for torrents. For rare movies DC++ can also be useful but as mentioned above it is a bit slow to find stuff.

DC++ with a few 100GB/4000 user hubs, sweeet. but bittorent is easier then you dont have to maintain a share outside your torrents.

I'm more likely to get hit by a train walking down the street than to be sued for using Kazaa (unless you are sharing thousands of files).

Just don't leave stuff in your download directory and you won't be offering anything. It's pretty difficult to nail you for downloading. They'll see you download a file, and can really only yell at you for what they saw you download. They have no idea what is on your machine. Moreover, you could simply claim you were looking for a public domain file with a similar name and downloaded everything that popped up (with the intent to delete later if not the right song).

As far as I know not a single case has been for downloading... all for distributing,

Cant you say: Hoping to distribute a free song, I uploaded eveything that add the same name in the hopes that the other guy would delete it if it wasnt the right thing?
