If we're going to judge an entire genre by its impact on its fans, we owe it to the genre and the fans to examine primarily the bands that have the most fans and therefore are positioned to have the greatest impact.

Black Sabbath and later Ozzy Osbourne solo. Consistently affirmative of life, dismissive of hatred and organizations that spread it.

Led Zeppelin. Their early work was nothing but electric blues, making me wonder how the heck they ever got categorized as "heavy metal." It must have been their choice of name, a triumph of marketeering. Nothing fascist in that music. Later they jumped into prog rock with its usual cute, unfathomable lyrics. "Stairway to Heaven" is arguably the most listened-to "heavy metal" song ever recorded, and it has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. "When all are one and one is all/To be a rock and not to roll." Come on people, be serious!

Metallica. Their early speed-metal tunes had many dark themes, but not one of them, in my recollection, touched on Nazi politics or philosophy. They were more into H.P. Lovecraft than Adolf Hitler. Their later music that won them a huge audience was like Sabbath. If you can find the faintest reference to Nazism in it, it would be as the object of criticism.

    Lot of pagan imagery, however.

The hypocrisy is alone in your mind: the comment was serious. I believe dumb-ass Nazis should be shot in the face, and killed, so that the smart ones can move forward. Incidentally, I feel the same way about all of humanity. There are some leaders and then there are normal people and then there are inert, passive people who need to be shot in the face and composted.

I bet no one ever thought of that snappy original comeback before

Actually, that is too restrictive; I sincerely feel all Nazis should be shot in the face and composted. No offense.

    Smart nazis...?

    There just aren't any.

    National Socialism just didn't work.

Nazi Germany's leaders couldn't even get their heads sufficiently out of their arses to realize that it's ethno-centric Weltanschauung was losing World War 2 for them.
The most "visionary" of the lot was perhaps Albert Speer, who basically said bugger your "dyed in the wool nazis" running everything... we need people who know what they're doing...!

For this effort, he was branded just another power-monger by the sycophants sucking up to Hitler, and they resisted reforming their system tooth and nail.

    End result..?

I enjoy being able to drop my soap, thank you very much.

Look, the only reason most Nazis are Nazis is because Naziism seems hip and unorthodox. Same principle as Goths. Now, the worst thing you can do to a Goth is to suggest that they are mainstream, that they are not hated and abhorred.

Short of physically violent acts, the worst thing you can do to a Nazi is to make Nazi fetishism hip! Just think of it - we only have to infiltrate pop music. Then we will influence major popstars like Britany Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Agulaira to embrace Nazi ideology. Once Xtina does a concert benefitting Hendrik Moebus, millions of pre-teen girls will rush out and buy their own Got Mit Uns belt buckles and mCDs.

By the way, the SS had "God is with Us" written there because Hitler was a fervent anti-Christian seeking to restore the Teutonic race to its original volkish ways.

    Killjoy:
The decision to invade Russia, America's entry into the war, Italy's incompetence and Germany's troops being subsequently spread much too thinly had more to do with their loss than ethnocentricism did.

Certainly the Nazis made gross errors, but not necessarily as a result of the racial views. Those can only be argued to have seriously hurt them when they lost potential allies in the Ukraninans - who may have aided them against the Soviets, whom the Ukrainians despised.

Illustrating how arbitrary and stupid Nazi racial views were. The Ukrainians are probably the closest Caucasian ethnicity to the original Aryans.

But in any case it was not their racial views that lost them the war.

Simply rebelistic. Odd as it is, the only rebel music out. Since the rappers got out and decided to inspire others to vote, it's totally the only anti-political music out.

The "metals" are the only forms of music I've never appreciated.
I can even get into country music under certain conditions. Top 40 is my staple right now.
    And I'm a fascist.
    So I disagree.

However, if I tried to extract as much from music as most do, if I had to try and define myself with music, I'd probably be a metal fan and just endure the pain of listening to the shit.

I keep music appreciation seperate from my "views". I find if you don't you start listening to stuff you don't actually like the sound of and that can make you depressed.
I used to be against any form of love song, any song that had any little thing in the lyrics my angry teen self disagreed with. Anything commercial was shit, etc.
It limitted my options to really bad music, music that simply wasn't good enough for human consumption but was put out there because enough people are like I was and will listen to anything that doesn't fit into what they've decided is cool to hate.

It's cool when a song sounds good and has a message you agree with, or promotes violence or something. But i just can't bothered waiting around for that.

Pop is specifically tuned to excite the ear of the homo-sapien by professionals.
It's the most joyous feel good music. What else do you want from music?
If there's some grumbling growling death metal guy with lyrics I agree with, I wouldn't know, or care.
It'd be like a HIV+ cellmate carving a brilliant essay onto the shaft of his penis with a shard of glass before slamming it into my ass.
I'll just get by without the enlightenment if you don't mind.

Funny, hitler would have gassed ukranians for sure if he got his hands on any, they're exactly the kind of people he hated.
Jews, gypsies, ukranians, for all intents and purposes, they're much of a likeness.
If hitler did love ukranians and deem them the ultimate people, while making his distaste for jews and gypsies known, that would be like saying "I hate death metal band sodomocide, but adore death metal band infanticide", I mean its just some angry ex-nerd douche trying to hide his acne scarring with a big beard and incoherently growling over distorted guitar riffs. If you like one you like them all.
And if you hate jews and gypsies you have to hate ukranians.
I'm sure if hitler went back in time and found out aryans looked like ukranians he would have vomitted in their hairy slimey faces, and then they probably would have rubbed his back comfortingly while they picked his pocket and stole his watch.

Heavy metal is a big genre, so big that it is impossible to say that it leads to anything. On the one hand, you have black metal bands from Norway with clearly racist lyrics, while on the other one you have bands like Stratovarius that are mainly pop bands with guitars.
