Just when you thought the right couldn't get much more absurd... http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforksherald/news/opinion/7493651.htm A note attatched to the link I get daily from my George W. Bush yahoo group: signed, "Sandra Binder" *sigh* And they wonder why we have feelings of intellectual supperiority...
From the "Lib" side I also want to pull the plug on PBS and NPR. Their reporting has a consistent pro Neocon pro war bias. They are wolves dressed in the style of sheep. They suck contributions from liberals that would be better spent funding media that does not suck up to power. End PBS and NPR.
PBS was created to sell LBJ's "Great Society". No accident that every congressional district has at least one PBS station. Today it is a dumping ground for the spawn of wealthy liberals who cannot get a real job after majoring in Gender Studies or simliar nonsense at Yale, Harvard, Brown and institutions of...ahem...higher learning.
If NPR starts firing on air personalities, American street corners will be packed with people with signs proclaiming: "Will speak with a fake accent and be snotty for food."
Sure I did. I've even given to PBS in the past because I watched it a lot. But my kids watch Dora, Bob the Builder, Spongebob, etc. I used to watch PBS a lot to see British programs like Monty Python, Are you being served, or Dr. Who. But with BBC America, even that nitch is filled. I really don't see a need anymore for PBS. If we had infinate money, sure. But it's not worth going into debt to subsidize what amounts to one of 500 channels.
Why watch Nova? Takes less than 5 minutes to read what it takes Nova an hour to broadcast. Oh...I forgot...some people don't know how to read. And then there are the pretty pictures.....some people like pictures with words.
So... in the traditional response i've come to expect from most "conservatives"... let's ban educational programs before bombs... THE U.S. IS NOT IN DEBT BECAUSE OF PBS. It is because of a reckless president giving massive tax cuts to the rich while waging an uneccessary and unilateral war. Please, no more red-herrings. You also must remember - BBC America, the history channel, the learning channel, etc... is something you get with cable. Some of us don't have that either because it is a waste or because we can't outright afford it.
Oh sheesh....liberal chants. "tax cuts to the rich" Like we haven't heard this a billion zillion times.
Are you denying this administration has given the majority of its tax cuts to wealthy? Perhaps denying they've spent billions of dollars on a useless war? That is why we are in debt. There is no way to spin it. You give money to the wealthy elite and launch a multibillion dollar war while the war profiters line their pockets with the rest of our tax dolalrs. And people want to cut PBS out of the equation? Maybe only after this administration is gone will you morons start to realize what has happened to our national treasury... We have to pay it all back. Hehe... "fiscal conservatives" Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Any tax cut must, by definition, go to those who pay taxes. Since the poor pay, essentially, no taxes, saying you are against tax cuts "for the wealthy" is the same as saying you are flat out against tax cuts. Defense is the main reason for the existence of the federal government. Without defense, we're dead. We can debate the merits of the Iraq war and its relative importance to the war on terror, but that's a whole different thread. In my opinion, whatever we need for defense comes first. Everything else is a luxury. My main gripe with Bush is the uncontrolled spending on social programs, such as PBS. Everything BUT defense should be cut to balance the budget. They should just go thru, cut out all the BS pork they can find, and then cut the rest, except for defense, by whatever percent necesary across the board to balance the budget each year.
Well it looks like top is on his own on this one so i guess i'll help him out. Speaking as someone who can't afford cable (and watch so little tv that it wouldn't be worth it even if i could). I do kind of depend on PBS for any sort of quality programming. But i suppose if you are willing to pay the over inflated cable or satelite prices then PBS probaly doesn't do much for you. The rest of us will just take what we can get
