I decided to place a new Sticky thread in that hopefully will contain links to peripheral manufacturers sites for firmware upgrades no matter the platform.

The sorts of things that have firmware upgrades are:
    Modems
    Routers
    CD-R and CD-WR
    Motherboards

and a host of other devices.

The reason for createing this threat was due to me getting hold of a new device that was "Distributed" by a Logo of "Mentor", which I didn't easily find the developer/manufacturers site.
    So here it is:

    Mentor and Lex Devices

www.driverguide.com provides drivers; accounts are free last time I checked.

For older hardware, look up the Total Hardware 1999 collection of hardware config specs.

For you nForce2 users out there...

I had problems with the current release (5.10) of nforce drivers for the ethernet controller on my Abit nf7-s v2 board. After installing the drivers, the device would "fail" and obviously wouldn't work. I don't know if this is an Nvidia driver problem or an Abit hardware problem, but I'm leaning towards Nvidia's fault because the ethernet controller works with the oldest driver version and now the nForce 6.14 beta drivers. And I read somewhere that the 5.10 nforce drivers want to rename the ethernet controller to something it's not...like "Nvidia ethernet controller MCP #2," so that may be the problem and why it fails for me.

You can get the 6.14 beta drivers at guru3D.com (scroll down a bit for its description) and probably lots of other places.

I think all drivers should be stored inside firmware of the devices and must be platform independent by using JAVA.
