Urban Terror is the free FPS game? If so, I can download the server files and get a game up and running 24/7.

Heck, I can even set up a voice comm server for it (Vent or TS, I have server files for both).

Well no, Urban terror is not free yet you still need to own Quake 3.
Urban terror though is being ported to enemy territory an RtCW based game that is free and you can download as such:
    http://enemy-territory.4players.de:1041/
There is a realistic modern combat simulation 1ps that betting Urban Terror to the port: Check out True Combat:

they released a test version of their ET port last week, I tried it and found it alright.

Well, I have BF1942 and BF:V, both with several mods. I'd love to set up servers for a [Sci] clan in those games, but in order to make it available to all Sciforums members, it should be free FPS games (or the demos). I'm tellin' ya, the Wake level on the BF1942 multiplayer demo is hella fun and has mucho replay value.

Will the clan be competitive, or will this just be a place for Sciforums members to meet and take out their differences on one another?

Well, these are my dedicated server specs:

    Microprocessor: Dual 2.8GHz Xeon Processors

    RAM: 2GB DDR RAM

    Hard Drive: 2 x 73GB SCSI HDD

If you have DC_Final, you can check it out at IP: 67.19.198.148:14567 (Lost Village 24/7).

Basically, I can run a crapload of low-player servers, or 2 64-player DC_Final servers. It is just a matter of figuring out what game(s) the [Sci] community agrees to play.

    1. The game should be free and downloadable: like Enemy Territory and mods for it.

I agree. I've never tried Enemy Territory, but if it is available online for free, and no other game is needed to run it, I think that'll be a good place to start!

I'll download the server files for Enemy Territory to my server tonight and post the server info once it's up!

Now the question is, Ventrilo or Teamspeak?

I putting my bets on a mod for ET like Urban Terror or True Combat. But I'll play ET again if you make a sciforums ET server.

    IP is: 67.19.198.148

Right now, the server name is ET Host, which is the default for ET servers. I'd like to change it to Sciforums ET Server or [Sci] ET Server.

It is basically default everything right now, since I was spoiled with BF1942 server managers which were all GUI based, and this ET server is all config code. I'll begin tweaking it as I find out more info!

I have yet to connect to it, so I hope it is running smoothly! If any of you have experience running ET servers, feel free to share your experience with me!

Now, how do we go about choosing admins?

    [Update:]

Ok, I have successfully connected to the server! ET looks pretty cool! Unfortunately, I was the only one on...so grab ET (and the update patch) and jump on the server. To connect, start ET, go to the multiplayer screen, and choose connect by IP. Type in the server IP (67.19.198.148) and you're on!

Need to figure out a set time, and game for everyone to play. Expensive games aren't a good idea, 'cos we need something everyone can get. Older games, or demos. should be OK.
