Iran's new Shahab III missiles are designed to deter Israel's Arrow missile ABM system which Israel is prematurely confident in. Why is this new missile so dangerous? It may surprise you how advanced this new actually is:

Why is this important, the reasons are endless firstly it proves that Iran has the technology necessary to defeat Israel’s much vaunted Arrow missile, and this new Shahab III variant is able to deliver a nuclear weapon and is able to effectively move around during flight to avoid the ABM’s. This is known as MERV’s which are maneuverable warheads which no present ABM system can neutralize. Of course the Iranians couldn’t have done this by themselves they much have gotten extensive Russian assistance which is the only other nation to my knowledge which has such technology. Also the warhead comes down very quickly this missile is not a scud missile; the whole thing doesn’t come down. The new information of the CEP (which measures the accuracy of the missile) is VERY high for an IRBM, especially for a nation like Iran. 30-50m is enough to make this missile a serious threat to specific installations. With extensive Russian, and North Korean help the Iranians have developed a formidable missile to which Israel, nor NMD has a defense against. The battle for hegemony has gotten that much tighter.

For you have to understand the magnitude of this, a attack against Iran would accomplish nothing because the Iranians have these missiles on mobile launchers, so they won’t where they are, thus Iran has a almost fail safe weapon to employ against Israel. Israel is ultimately defenseless. Also this new variant has a longer range of approximately 2000 km which puts some parts of Europe under threat:
Attacking Iran is not going to solve anything people, its time to talk compromise and peace.

those stupid israelis better be scared. i dont like Iran but nice on them this time:

    mean while in Israel:

3 Year Old Palestinian Boy Shot

3 year-old Muataz Al Amoudi was treated in hospital of the northern West Bank
town of Nablus, after being shot in the leg by an Israeli soldier.

Muataz was shot during an overnight Israeli army incursion in the West Bank city
of Nablus, Palestinian residents and the army said.

Muataz's father Bader Al Amoudi said his son was sleeping when the army ordered
residents of their three-story apartment building out of their homes early on
Tuesday. Al Amoudi said it took him some time to wake Muataz, and they were shot
as he carried his son out of the building. He said he was shot in the finger,
and Muataz was in stable condition with a broken leg.

On the eve of the Sukkot holiday (Wednesday, Sept 29), two Israeli children, Dorit Aniso, two, and Yuval Abebeh, four, were murdered by a Kassam rocket fired at their Sderot home in southern Israel by Hamas terrorists. This rocket strike was part of an ongoing and indiscriminate onslaught of attacks: More than 460 rockets have been fired at Israel's civilian population.

Please these Kassam rockets have nothing to do with the situation at hand apart from appealing to emotion. Let's stay on topic please.

    Sorry.
Couldn't these mobile launchers could be spotted by air using unmanned drones or satellite photography? You don't have to defend against them if you destroy them first.

truthseeker: I agree we should be advocating peace

Truthseeker to my knowledge has not posted in this thread.

but with people like steph, inciting hated, as it takes to two to tango.

True, but neither side Israeli or Iranian have taken steps that would conclude this battle of wills. By the looks of it should Iran get a nuclear weapon (which it probably will) the balance of power will for once be stablized (as it should be).

Chances are that the Iranian's leanred valuable lessons from the North Koreans, keep everything underground and only take these babies out when they are needed. There is no way that you would destroy these missile in time anyways it would take hours to get to Iran from Israel, and even from Iraq. Sorry but Iran has got the upper hand on this one, even if you knew they were going to attack there is little you can do.

    sure: US of A

Iran, the mullocracy days are numbered - so is your WMD program

the Shahab.. man, the Iranians will never be that stupid to use them.. not with the US army with their daisy cutters and bunker busters just sitting there waiting to be used on 2 sides of Iran's borders

it's a long way from Teheran to Jerusalem. there are plenty of early-detection systems along that route, with - i'm sure - multiple anti-missile systems like the Arrow 2 or whatever that system's name was

the Shahab 3's are mainly for show - notice how these are paraded in city streets in military parades... i've been to such parades in USSR when i was 7 years old. makes you feel mighty powerful and proud... that's pretty much the main purpose the Shahabs serve

Israel is small and is therefore easier to defend than.. say... huge amounts of territory such as.. say... EUROPE

the EU people aren't even concerned that Iran has now weapons that can reach EU's territory. along with Iran's immediate neighbours which will now (and historically too) have to tripple their spending on defense, EU has a new headache. bravo.

i just want to say one thing - if Iran was ever to respond to an Israeli sabotage or bombing of its nuclear reactor, it would do what it always does - find a soft Jewish target abroad, preferably a community center or an embassy, and car bomb it

or the usual shit that it's been doing forever - fund and train hizballah and "palestinian" "mujahideen"

the latter is easier to deal with. but the former is a little more dangerous. hizballah have already in their possession many Syrian and Iranian rockets, some with chemical heads, pointed at Israeli cities.

Israel can defeat the hizballah (they're only 20k-30K fighters) but it'd take a big operation, which i'm sure has already been prepared - Israelis always prepare for all contingencies

to sum up, the full response to an Israeli sabotage or bombing is unpredictable. but as for the Shihab 3 missiles themselves, they're no reason for concern

In the context of the middle east resolution of conflict through negociation is rapidly approaching impossible. I have a theory although I don't know if it would ever be tested but I think that the since the larger difference in opinion rests on religious preferance that only a compromised stiffled negociation can take place in the middle east. A much less turbulant enviroment could be the United States and or europe where Jews and Muslims do co-exist in peace. We know it is possible becasue they do outside the middle east. Maybe going to where they do co-exist without war is a better place to sit down and talk things out. Finding the right place may be the first step in a successful negociation but certainly not the last.

Iran, the mullocracy days are numbered - so is your WMD program

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mullahs would have been overthrown pre-axis of evil, and pre-Iraq, but now the genious’ at the White House have given Iran’s government reason to incite nationalism, and claim that Islam is under threat from the US. So now the chances of this government falling have falling in tandem.

the Shahab.. man, the Iranians will never be that stupid to use them.. not with the US army with their daisy cutters and bunker busters just sitting there waiting to be used on 2 sides of Iran's borders

Iran has little to fear from the US army, the best the US can hope to do is attack Iran from the air, and it would be a devastating attack no question but I don’t think it would be enough to actually neutralize Iran. Iran is too huge a country for the US seriously consider doing anything apart from bombing.

it's a long way from Teheran to Jerusalem. there are plenty of early-detection systems along that route, with - i'm sure - multiple anti-missile systems like the Arrow 2 or whatever that system's name was

I don’t think you get it; the reason why I said Israel should be worried is because these new missiles are immune to Israel’s Arrow’s. Israel can detect these missiles all they want they will not be able to shoot them down, and thus Israel is again defenseless.

the Shahab 3's are mainly for show - notice how these are paraded in city streets in military parades... i've been to such parades in USSR when i was 7 years old. makes you feel mighty powerful and proud... that's pretty much the main purpose the Shahabs serve

Just because these missiles are on display doesn’t mean they are toys as shown in this picture http://www.acig.org/artman/uploads/s-3-4.jpg, these are real threats and they are only increasing. The Shahab’s purpose is to carry a nuclear warhead to Tel Aviv, and with this new technology it can do it with impunity.

Israel is small and is therefore easier to defend than.. say... huge amounts of territory such as.. say... EUROPE

The opposite is true, firstly it gives Israel shorter reaction time, it gives Israel less time to evacuate personnel, and because Israel is so small a nuclear attack on Tel Aviv (should the weapon be large enough) could cause serious damage to surrounding cities like Jerusalem, and even Gaza.

the EU people aren't even concerned that Iran has now weapons that can reach EU's territory.

Well so far Iran can only attack Cyprus with these new missiles to my knowledge. Also the EU’s has little reason to fear Iran because they aren’t idiots, they realize the way to pacify threats to make them economically dependant on you. And Iran is economically dependant and political dependant on the EU. Oil speaks louder then words.

along with Iran's immediate neighbours which will now (and historically too) have to tripple their spending on defense, EU has a new headache. bravo.

Not really Pakistan, and India have nuclear weaponry the defense expenditures of surrounding nations didn’t grow all that much. Iran’s only real target here is Israel, only Israel would have to spend more on the military because the rest of the region has little to fear from Iran getting the bomb. Now Saudi Arabia will get the bomb to eventually, and she already has nuclear capable missiles capable of hitting Turkey, and Israel.

i just want to say one thing - if Iran was ever to respond to an Israeli sabotage or bombing of its nuclear reactor, it would do what it always does - find a soft Jewish target abroad, preferably a community center or an embassy, and car bomb it

I don’t think so this time, because Iran has promised to react fully to any attack brought on to her territory. I believe Israel will not attack Iran due to these revelations.

hizballah have already in their possession many Syrian and Iranian rockets, some with chemical heads, pointed at Israeli cities.

No, the Syrian military has missiles that can carry chem. Warheads against Israel, Hezbollah has missiles that can attack Haifa.

Israel can defeat the hizballah (they're only 20k-30K fighters) but it'd take a big operation, which i'm sure has already been prepared - Israelis always prepare for all contingencies

Israel is not capable of defeating the invisible, if this were true the US would be out of Iraq.

to sum up, the full response to an Israeli sabotage or bombing is unpredictable. but as for the Shihab 3 missiles themselves, they're no reason for concern

    Should you believe that ok.

Neither is attacking Saddam, no doubt.

    On your planet, maybe.

It's time to, once again, talk 'assured destruction'.

    R-e-s-p-e-c-t.

    "You feeling lucky, punk?"

    "Go ahead, make my day."

No, i don't mean that the militants aren't targeting settlers, they just won't know who is going to be hit.

Sadly rationality seems only to exist in the minds who know it.

It's time to, once again, talk 'assured destruction'.

I agree...that's the way to peace in the Middle East. Give both sides the ability to destroy each other, then they will be forced to the peace table or at least tacit peace.

Something the UN can't command, nor even earn.

Well I would say the UN has more respect then the US anyday, but that's another discussion.

    Two questions:
    1. If Iran has nukes would they use them on the holy land, a land that is in fact holy to them as Muslims as well as Jews and Christians, would they irradiate and also be willing to take the fallout that spreads onto there land and the land of other countries?
    2. When and why would a war between Israel and Iran start?

According to the bible (I think) Jerusalem would be sparred from such a war, the rest of the land is not all that important to Muslims. Of course Jerusalem is the prize, the rest is nothing. Now I don’t think Iran would ever start a pre-emptive nuclear war. This whole situation depends on whether or not Israel will attack Iran’s nuclear plant, to which Israel now stands to lost Dimona her own nuclear plant. The Iranian’s threats now are real.

    2. When and why would a war between Israel and Iran start?

Soon, if Israel thinks she can escape an attack against Iran unscathed. Also I am assuming that Israel would be successful in such an attack that is not a guarantee either. Iran’s air force is very good, and has bought very advanced Russian SAM’s (S-300’s) which are even better then the Patriot missile.

I got this article from a conservative website but I think its true:

Firstly this only re-enforces the point that Iran can attack specific targets now anywhere in the Middle East. Secondly it shows the extensive relationship Iran has with other nations, China, Russia, and North Korea. Thirdly what should worry Americans directly is that because Iran and NK are so close in working together with these missile and nuclear technologies. The great weakness of NK’s missiles has been her lack or accuracy, now should NK get this technology (which she probably already has) the US should be very scared because now NK can target and threaten American military targets for real. Also I am not so sure about the accuracy of this source because it came from a neo-conservative website but”
